- Traveling on a plane can be a comfortable experience if you carry the right gear. Firstly, you’ll need basic toiletries, such as a toothbrush and hairbrush, a spare set of clothes and a few magazines. Next, leave space in your carry-on bag for your electronic devices, chargers, your important medications and maybe a comfy neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to bring your passport, travel papers and your credit cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of prohibited items can differ between airlines, the general rule to follow is nothing sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes knives, scissors, fuel and fireworks. Sports equipment like golf clubs, and items that could harm other people, such as pepper spray and firearms, aren’t allowed in the cabin either.
What to wear on a flight:
- The best way to ensure a comfortable flight is as simple as your choice of clothing. Prepare yourself for varying temperatures by layering up. This will keep you nice and warm if the cabin gets too cold. Shoes like sandals and heels are best left in your checked suitcase. Instead, go for flat, closed-toed footwear like sneakers. Your feet will thank you later.
- Unfortunately, one risk of long-distance flying is developing DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged inactivity. To avoid this, take every opportunity to walk around the cabin and stretch your legs. Compression tights and socks are also a great idea to help reduce this risk.
