Nice Stay, Bad Check-in
If this review were just based on the house itself, it would be a 5. However, the check-in was so terrible I had to give it a 3. We followed our GPS to the listed address and GPS couldn’t find it. So we switched to Apple Maps. Also couldn’t find it. We called Vrbo to see if maybe we had the wrong address. They assured us we had the right address. The owner was in Europe and we couldn’t reach her.
I started clicking on various items and it turned out there was a *second* address listed under Parking. We used GPS to get to the second address. Unlike the first, it did exist, but when we got there we found that there was a truck parked in the driveway and a bunch of building materials blocking the driveway so we couldn’t park. In the end we had to go to a hotel. The owner reached out to us the next day and apologized, saying that she had given a false address to protect her privacy. I’ve never heard of an owner doing this. I asked for a refund for the first night and she said she would do that.
The next afternoon we checked in at the correct address and had a good stay from there forward, aside from a slight mildew smell that seemed to fade when we opened the windows. As long as you get the correct address directly from the owner and not from Vrbo you should be ok.
