Beautiful but somewhat crunchy
The house is in a beautiful spot, looking out over a verdant manicured lawn sloping down to the jungle and then ultimately out to the ocean far below. Monkeys visit the property daily. It is up a long single track road that climbs up the mountain above the Golden Rock hotel. The house itself has a big wide wrap-around porch, and open doors that let the breeze through. From the outside it is very handsome, and as you can see from the photo there is a (very) small pool. Inside it is tastefully appointed, but in fairness needs some updating and is I no way fancy. The bedrooms are reasonably nice and beds comfortable and the linens very nice but the bathrooms and the kitchen have old fixtures (ie an old electric stove; no dishwasher; small camp-like showers, etc.). One thing I should note—there is no A/C, which concerned me before we arrived but the breeezes up on the hill kept us very cool at night. There is no interior stairway to the downstairs bedrooms if you have smaller children. We were here as a family with three teenagers and had a great time. So long as you can be happy with something less than high luxury, this is a special spot and you should too.
