Coomera’s name is taken from an Aboriginal word, meaning different things in the languages of the Aboriginal groups of this area. To some it means blood and refers to the Coomera River flowing through the area like a vein. For others it is the name for a local wattle species that was used to sedate fish. The river certainly merits both names. Find plentiful fish within its life-giving waters and experience the relaxing effect it has on holiday makers.

Escape life’s stresses on a houseboat go boating in the canals and head out to explore the protected waters between Wave Break Island and Macleay Island in Moreton Bay. Watch just below the water’s surface for dolphins and turtles. Fish for trevally, bream, cod, mangrove jack and flathead from the deck of a houseboat or from the Coomera River fishing platform.

Coomera is located at the northern end of the Gold Coast. Drive 40 minutes from Brisbane or take a short boat trip from South Stradbroke Island.

There was a mixup with our room but the staff handled it exceptionally well. The renovation is nice but there are some design floors which means the showers always flood. I wouldn’t bother with this hotel again except that the staff are so amazing.
