Best House in Town

Amazing scenery around, easy walk to downtown, short drive to so many different fun things to do. Absolutely loved our stay and would do it again!

Great quiet retreat

The peaceful setting with the creek noise is perfect. Plenty of hiking trails just a short distance from the house. Easy walk into town for food and drinks. Will definitely stay again.

Cozy newer cabin with great views and prime location

We really enjoyed our stay at Baernhaus. Great location for expoloring downtown and hiking up the mountain via public trails. The only downside was the quality of cleaning prep, but I am sure this will be addressed for future visits.

Great house!

My family and I really enjoyed our time here. The area is very beautiful and quiet and it's just a five minute walk to the general store and a few other shops. The house was very clean and well appointed. I really appreciated how the owners listened to past guests and added a coffee maker and an extension cord for the lights outside.

Excellent setting.

Nearly incomparable setting in the woods but super convenient. Beautiful house, but needs minor maintenance; eg even a Zen master couldn't relax with the fridge beeping.

Perfect Mt Hood Getaway

This is our second time staying at Baernhaus- it has become our go-to place to stay in Government Camp. Clean, sleek, modern but very cozy. Perfect location- short 1 block walk to Govy, yet completely private setting, elevated in the trees. Nice separation of bedrooms from common areas. Bedroom arrangement better suited for families but workable for couples. Definitely staying here again!

Modern home in woodsy setting - the perfect combination!

This is the second year we've stayed at this home, and we love it. It is always kept super clean, and while it's a three story affair, the layout is great and the spaces are both modern but cozy. Our particular trip saw an issue with the fridge's water dispenser, but that's hardly the homeowner's fault, and I'm sure they'll fix it. We love it for the style, the setting, and its proximity to Mt. Hood Skibowl and the Alpine Slide, which my kids love (I do too). Highly recommended!!!

Very cozy

We loved how cozy it was, with the fireplace inside and the fire pit outside. The grill was clean and usable, we made steak and it cooked great. Plenty of dishes and other kitchen appliances for everything we needed. The only thing missing was a kettle to make hot tea. We used a pot to boil water. Also loved the fact that we could do a late check-out at 2pm, that made the trip so much better as we didn't have to rush in the morning.

Stunning and sereneThe baernhaus home is exactly as described and more! Beautifully modern, spacious, clean and well stocked. Perfectly located a couple blocks behind the town center in a quiet neighborhood. Check in/out was easy. The home was bright, comfortable and having been built so high up it was nice being tucked up high in the trees. Yes there are lots of stairs, but we embraced the fact we could get a mini workout in each time we moved between floors. We did not use the studio on the ground floor but both bedrooms on the second floor were roomy with cozy bed linens. The washer and dryer worked great and although there was no ac the home stayed cool and comfortable, even on the top floor where the huge ceiling fan kept air moving. The kitchen is a cook's dream, but the outside deck on the top floor became our favorite spot to enjoy morning coffee, relax, sketch/draw the beautiful surroundings and grill out after a day of hiking and sightseeing. The added bonus was the small creek out back that lulled us to sleep at night and drowned out all the noises during the day. We also enjoyed watching and listening to the mischievous ravens. Located so close to all the spectacular scenery and outdoor activities around mt hood, having stayed at the baernhaus made our visit that much more charming. Great overall experience

Balcony on the third floor with a woods view and a stream going on in the backyard was fantastic. The sound of the water stream was soothing with large open concept living room and huge kitchen. Definitely need to climb up the stairs as the main living room is in the third floor and there is no restroom in 3rd floor so you will have to use the floor-2 or floor-1 for restrooms. It was little inconvenient but overall the experience was so great with the view on floor-3 as captured in the listing pictures

Forest Magic

First time in the Pacific Northwest. As an avid camper, I am familiar with the southwest and southeast environments. I was sent to Portland for business and saw the opportunity to stay the weekend to explore. After scouting the area via Google I settled on the Mount Hood forest area. Quick search on VRBO landed me to discover Govy and the wonderful property I stayed at amongst the trees. Well appointed, very clean, with a modern vibe. Every detail was covered. Truly enjoyed everything about this location as a jumping off point. Walking distance to the town center. It all aligned to make this visit "Forest Magic vacay" to remember. Will definitely be back.

Perfect location, but several other issues

I hate to leave a bad review, but there are some things folks should know before reserving and some things the owners could improve. The location is fantastic! By far the best location in town. The biggest issue and why we would not stay again is the beds/layout. We were two couples and two teenagers. One couple had the room with the queen, which was fine, but the double on the same floor is small and the nightstands are right up against the bed. This shouldn't be a complaint because it is accurate to the description, but know that it's a double (not a full) and a very tight fit for two adults. The pull-out downstairs, which is the same as the one upstairs, is two separate slide-outs (smaller than twins). The teens each took one side and were ok, but no way two adults could sleep there comfortably. Not a huge issue but be aware that the kitchen is on the 3rd floor, so the load in is a long haul. The house has lots of extras but was missing basics: In a house that sleeps 8, there were 5 dinner plates and 5 forks. Not a single dish towel, no foil, no salt & pepper. But the real issue came when the power went out. Totally not their fault (all of Govy lost power), but the house had one TINY flashlight and some tealight candles. No lanterns, no real flashlights, no snow shovel. The fireplace is electric, so no heat w/o power. The neighbor lent us a shovel so we could leave after a night w/o heat, but how do you have a winter cabin w/ no preparedness amenities?

This property is lovely. You are surrounded by trees, have a beautiful stream in back and lots of windows for natural light. The house is beautifully furnished. We enjoyed cooking in the well stocked kitchen. It is walking distance to some fun local restaurants and a very short drive to Mt Hood. There is an abundance of wonderful hiking trails nearby. We will definitely be back.

Nice location, but house lay out unusual.

Very nice location in relationship to Mount Hood. The house was very clean and relatively new, but the layout was unusual. You have to be ready to climb some stairs. Also, no closet space available so you have to live out of your suitcase for a few days.
