About this property
Wonderful VT Get Away, Great Family Fun, WiFi, and Air Conditioning.
This newly constructed (2002) Vermont Cape is located on 50 very private acres of rolling open grasslands and pristine woodlands with breathtaking views of Mount Mansfield and Vermont's Green Mountains. You'll pass several dairy farms as you find your way to this one of a kind escape location. Situated on a ridge spanning the townships of Greensboro, Craftsbury and Hardwick, this home affords all the comforts of a luxury resort while allowing for all the solitude and peace of mind of an alpine camping trip. The home features beautiful exposed beams, hardwood floors throughout, custom built cabinets, plus a large fireplace. Activities for all seasons abound outside your front door. In summer, there is swimming, biking and hiking; in winter, cross country skiing, sledding and snowmobiling. For lake lovers in the summer, Caspian Lake in Greensboro is only 5 minutes away. For downhill lovers in winter, Stowe and Jay Peak are less than an hour away.
New to the home, in response to popular demand, are WiFi and air-conditioning.
This home sleeps 14 comfortably with six bedrooms and 4 1/2 baths. Included are: downstairs master bedroom with full bath, fireplace, king size bed, and walk in closet; downstairs guest bedroom with full bath and queen size bed; two upstairs bedrooms with queen beds; one upstairs bedroom with two twin beds; upstairs dormitory with four beds. The upstairs also includes two full baths, and a family game and exercise room with television.
The downstairs layout is open. There is an expansive kitchen complete with all modern amenities (two ovens), which leads to a dining area, which leads to a living room with a large brick fireplace. Also included downstairs is a pantry room with washer and dryer and second refrigerator, a separate library and television room with satellite reception, a 1/2 bath for guests, and a warm storage area for coats, boots and winter gear.
For the spring through fall months, there is a large screened in porch with separate dining and sitting areas.
There's more. For the warmer months there is an in-ground pool, complete with patio and pool house that includes a changing room, and outdoor shower. Also, there is an outdoor basketball court. A two car garage is attached to the main house, separated by a cold mud room.
Greensboro is in the center of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, rich with cultural activities and Vermont charm. Within miles, in every direction, there are countless hiking, biking, skiing and snowmobiling trails. There are numerous lakes to fish and swim, and nearby Barr Hill preserve offers spectacular views of both the Green Mountains of Vermont and the White Mountains of New Hampshire and welcomes picnickers. Antique stores can be found in every town.
Burlington is 1 1/4 hrs away; Montpelier is only a 40 minute drive. Downhill skiing at Stowe or Jay Peak is 1 hour away. The hub of Vermont's local food movement is here, with several organic farmers and cheese makers offering their produce at local food markets and outdoor stands. And, of course, all can be found and had at Willey's General Store in Greensboro.
The Cork and Fork and Positive Pie restaurants in Hardwick (minutes away) offer some of Vermont's finest dining, and the new Front Seat Coffee shop in Hardwick is a must stop for your morning coffee and pastry.
Summer months offer a Sunday night concert series on Caspian Lake, and family fun at Circus Smirkus. There is also golf and tennis, open to guests, at the Green Mountain Country Club in Greensboro.
And for the beer lovers, be sure to visit the nationally recognized, and award winning, Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro, only 10-15 minutes away.

“Wonderful stay! The property was spotless, exactly as described, and in a perfect location. The host was responsive and made everything easy. We’d love to come back!”
This was our fifth straight year staying at Tom’s house and we had another great weekend! We easily fit six families in the six bedrooms. We love the well-stocked kitchen and open kitchen/dining/living rooms. The layout is perfect for hanging out while making large meals. At the same time, it’s easy to take a break and rest/nap in the bedrooms. Downstairs, there’s a large bedroom with king bed just off the living area with a bathroom with large tub and separate shower right next to it (not en suite). There’s also a smaller bedroom downstairs with queen bed and en suite bathroom with tub/shower. Upstairs, there’s a large bedroom with queen bed, two smaller bedrooms with a queen bed, and a large bedroom with four twin beds. Upstairs there’s a small bathroom with shower and a larger bathroom that I think has a tub and shower. We’re already looking forward to coming back next year!
We rode a couple different sections of the rail trail and had the house as a place to land at the end of the day. Clean, beds are comfortable and just about any amenity you could ask for. Beautiful spot!
This was our fourth time staying at Tom’s house for a winter weekend with a large group of friends (which now includes young kids). We love the location, close to Craftsbury Outdoor Center and Hill Fsrmstead, and that you can have dogs. Kitchen is stocked to cook for a group. And plenty of room for a large group! We’re planning to be back next year!
We have stayed at this property 5 times since 2016 and it remains our very favorite place to get away from it all. Tom is a great host and the house is just so comfortable. We will be back again.
A beautiful well kept property. We loved the big farmhouse kitchen with the huge island. Beautiful view from the huge screened back porch. Plenty of room for everyone! Plspaceporch
Our families of 10 adults had a wonderful time. The house is well-designed and very comfortable. Thanks to the heatwave, we spent most of our time in the pool. The kitchen had everything we needed, and more, which was great for enjoying everything from the various farm stands we came across on our day trips. The views are just wonderful at any time of day or night.
The house was a great place to get away. More than large enough for our group of twelve family members. A quiet well supplied place to gather. The owner, Tom went above and beyond to give us information about the house and the surrounding area. The house was well furnished and a beautiful place to be. We would stay there again if we ever travel in that area again. Great stay.
We stayed for a week with a group of friends. The house is spacious and comfortable. The owner, Tom, was in touch by phone and was very helpful. The weather didn’t cooperate for half the week but we were able to use the pool on the non-rainy days. There are many areas to hike and bike nearby. We really enjoyed our trip and would love to return.
This was our 6th year doing a winter friends weekend in the NEK and our third straight year staying at this house. It's great for large groups - tons of bedrooms and bathrooms and a huge open kitchen/living room area so people can hang out together when they want and take their own space when they want. The kitchen is well-equipped with supplies and the second oven and especially the second fridge in the laundry are super helpful. Looking forward to next year!
Wonderful family reunion location with beautiful views and space for all!
This is a beautiful property, large enough to comfortably accommodate a big group, but still retaining the charm of a country cabin. We came to Vermont to see the eclipse and needed a place to fit 6 adults and 3 children. This home had room to spare. We had everything we needed for a long weekend. The host is incredibly nice and helpful as were the folks in town (despite being overrun with crazy out-of-towners like us for the event). The home is on a dirt road which was very well maintained (even after a surprise early April snowstorm that ended the day we arrived). Our kids enjoyed playing in the snow and riding sleds down the small hill in the yard. We enjoyed several family dinners prepared in the beautiful kitchen and gathered around the large dining table. Evenings doing puzzles by the fire were a highlight for all ages as well. We very much look forward to coming back one day to enjoy this place in the summertime (and checking out the pool).
Our three families, totally 9, (ages 13-79) really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home and property. The home was very clean, spacious and included all the necessities we needed for the week. The open floor plan allowed us to easily communicate from the kitchen to the living room area. The kitchen was FULLY equipped with everything you would need for eating, cooking, baking and plenty of dishware. Even though the house is in a rural area (bonus), there were no issues with the WiFi.
Our favorite room was the huge screened in porch where we enjoyed happy hour, watching rain storms and beautiful sunsets. It also contains another long dining table where we spent evenings playing games.
Since we visited in August (12th-19th), we were fortunate to enjoy the yummy blueberries on the property. Our baking guru's made blueberry pancakes, scones, bruckle, and a delicious blueberry pie.
Tom Cummins, property owner, was excellent in communicating with us at ALL times and providing essential information about the house, specific directions to the house and entry. He was also kind enough to provide us with lots of general information about the area (shopping, great places to eat, etc.).....all great recommendations. One update: The Grand Union is now a TOPS.
The property has an inviting pool, however, due to rain and cooler days and night-time temps, our family didn't use it.
Overall, this is a wonderful property and location!!

This is a stunning home on a large scenic property in picturesque rural Vermont. The house had all the space and features we needed for our group XC ski trip with 14 adults. Bedrooms were very comfortable, and importantly, it had enough bathrooms for everyone. The large well-stocked kitchen (all the cookware and decent knives!) and dining room was a highlight for our group meals. The library, game room, and ping pong table in the basement were also great. The working fireplace in the living room made our winter stay extra cozy for group social time after skiing. I hope we can come back in the summer to use the pool, porch, and more of the property!
Snow tires are highly recommended in the winter as this is on a hilly rural dirt road about 4.5mi from Hardwick center and some distance from any main road.
Minor things could be improved - a couple bathrooms were low on toilet paper with no extra stock, and most had no hand or bath soap/conditioner. The host apologized but said he expected guests to replace TP. When you pay thousands to rent a home I expect they maintain these basics, no? They also ask guests to wash and dry all towels before checkout to save cleaning staff time. Last, they need to clarify checkout time - VRBO listing said 11am, the host said 10:30am, then the cleaners showed up at 10am. 10am is unusually early.
The host was very responsive to our questions and easy to communicate with throughout. He also helped us retrieve an item we left behind! Thanks Tom!
This was an amazing house to stay in. My large family was able have quality time together because of the thoughtful interior space. My father passed away last spring and we were missing him, but being together in this house brought some peace and comfort. The host was good about checking in with us and making sure our time in this house went well.
