Got to the hotel....the Indian guy said I have a handicap room? Do I want to switch? I said sure he said he upgraded to a king... I'm like great. Got to the room it smelled a dead body.. the fan was blasting so I know they know the room stinks. It was a dirty wet, old carpet. Anyway I felt sorry for the hotel. It must have been amazing at one point. The view of the capital is breathtaking. Everything else sucked.

This place was marked as 3 stars with reviews talking about cleanliness. Very misleading, Checked in, didnt feel safe at all. Walked into the room with an immediate smell of mustyness. Couldnt open the windows and wouldnt even tuen on their ac unit because that was nasty too. Took the loss and immediately checked out and into a safer cleaner hotel

Toilet looked like one at rest stop on highway. No toilet tank, just handle. Seemed underclassed. An extra mirror in the bedroom area would be nice. Only one hanger for clothes was not enough. Breakfast was good. Heat was good. Location was good.

Room was clean. Ceiling had missing paint though. Staff were very friendly. Not sure why there was a scarcity of toilet paper. Multiple guests asked and was told to ask at the front desk and they didn’t have. You can’t start a stay with less than half a roll and no one replenishes it!

Room was clean. Great location. Parking was a bit confusing we parked in back parking lot $16 but found out there is a garage on lower level, we weren't told about it. We will for sure stay there again. Breakfast options were very good too. Eggs, sausage patties, home fries, cereal, toast, bagels, yogurt, oatmeal, waffles, juice, coffee, tea. They didn't have decaf coffee though. Bed was firm but comfortable enough. Down side we had a great view overlooking the park but loud exhausts driving by did wake us up a few times. All in all we were very satisfied

Booked this hotel thru Expedia and got a very good price. It is just around the corner from the Hartford train and bus stations so it's wonderfully convenient. Just a few issues - First, the front door on Asylum Street is locked, with no sign to tell folks to walk around to the side entrance. Second - when we opened the door to our room, we found that IT HAD NOT BEEN CLEANED after the previous guests checked out - bed not made, used towels all over the bathroom (!) The clerk apologized and gave us another room - mistakes are made, but this was so dumb! Third - the bathroom faucets had crud on them (not just tarnish, but some gunk that could have been scrubbed off). Fourth - nice breakfast room, but no packets of half & half for coffee, only those flavored Coffee Mate thingies; there was 2% milk in the fridge for cereal, but this was almost gone; instead of scrambled eggs they had these rubbery egg disks. Despite my 3-star rating, I would still stay at the Capitol because of the convenient location.

1) Great location. 2) Great views. 3) Good breakfast with hot options. 4) Reliable WiFi but it requires logging in every 24H, which means it can drop out in the middle of doing something. 5) The printer in the business center did not work (no toner). 6) They often lock the front door to the hotel, which is really annoying and stupid. 7) One front-desk guy is really argumentative and annoying. 8) No housekeeping unless you ask for it before noon. 9) Electronic room keys often do not work and need to be replaced at the front desk, which is annoying.

A solid OK hotel. It's very evident there is no brand standard. The room is dated and in need of repairs. I recommend having a white noise machine because this is next to a train station and they can keep you up all night. The continental breakfast was comical. They serve cut up hot dogs as your morning protein option. Come in with low expectations and a good attitude and you'll be ok.

I travel frequently and am comfortable staying in modest hotels as long as they are clean and safe. Unfortunately, The Capitol Hotel in Hartford raised serious safety concerns and appears to be significantly misrepresented online. The property does not resemble the photos on Expedia. The exterior is extremely run down, and the covered entrance had large holes in the roof with exposed pipes and roofing material hanging down, giving the immediate impression that the building is poorly maintained. My daughter arrived around 11 PM after a late flight. When she entered the lobby there were multiple people sleeping on the floor and in chairs, and she overheard the front desk telling someone without a room that they could sleep in the lobby for the night. This did not feel like a safe or properly managed environment for guests arriving late at night. While the room appeared old but generally clean, the bed was two box springs with only a thin mattress topper instead of a proper mattress, which is completely unacceptable and clearly not what is represented online. The listing also advertises a fitness center, but the front desk confirmed there is no gym. The television only received one channel. These issues reflect clear misrepresentation of the amenities advertised on Expedia. When I arrived the next morning, I was so concerned by the property conditions that we immediately checked out and left. Travelers should be aware that the actual conditions of this property
