“Visable damp on the bathroom wall by the shower and a very strong smell of damp in the downstairs area including bedrooms. The owner tried to disguise the smell with air fresheners and by leaving the windows open but the smell of damp was still immediately apparent on entry. Had we been staying longer than 2 nights and not arrived so late in the evening on the first night we would have left. It was a real shame because everything else about the property and surrounding area was beautiful, but……

“I have used this hotel four times this last year as a stopover for trips from south Devon to Scotland and overall have been pleased with the facilities and service provided. Meals have been excellent and the rooms comfortable and clean. My only concern has been with the service in the dining room: the staff are all delightfully friendly and welcoming but on each of my visits service has been very slow - it took 40 minutes last night for drinks we’d ordered to arrive and our meals a further 10.……
