We loved our fam vacay! The owners clearly care about their property. The house felt very cozy, even though all the spaces were spacious enough for all our needs. The gardener greeted us with fresh Swiss chard and lettuce. Everything was in working condition, well stocked and clean. Our group ranged from 2 to 70, and we chose activities which suited everyone. The touristy town of Helen had a great playground, a covered eating area to picnic, loads of restaurants, ice cream shops, and shopping all styled in Austrian architecture. There was also the lake in Helen where one could go tubing…a 1-2 hr ride down the river. The kids went to "gem" shop in Helen and came home with a bag of gems (rocks). The Tallulah gorge was breathtaking and accommodated our many hiking skill levels. We found a splash pad and playground for the kids in the town of Gainesville, which was not crowded, and very clean ($2 dollars per child). There was a mile nature walk around the splash-playground area where we found wild blackberries and red raspberries, mulberry trees galore, and painted activities like hopscotch along the path. . The owner told us there is a path around their farm on which we were allowed to walk. We only made it a short distance with the kids. They collected rocks on the pathway and then came home and sorted-cleaned them. We allowed each of our 4 grandchildren to keep 2 of their favorites. The next day we returned the additional rocks to where they found them…they loved the activity and kept them busy and happy. We played family games on the airy and gracious outdoor covered porch (it wraps around the property, so there is always a shady spot) and took advantage of the late summer sunset. There are private porches off the upstairs bedrooms (in addition to the main floor wraparound porch) so a few of the parents left the action for quiet time while we grandparents enjoyed the young ones. Ingels is a fully stocked large supermarket, with many prepared specialties. There are outdoor seating restaurants in Clarkesville. Momma Dars looks like a shack, but made some of the best pizza we have tasted. This was a wonderful post Covid private space where we could relax, and hug to our hearts content. Only one comment on packing…it might make sense to pack outdoor folding chairs. There are 7 on the main deck, and so if you fill the house…the full group will need outdoor seating. Many thanks to the property owners…we loved our stay!
