Nice Short Break

Poor checking in process, access code not provided and waited on side of road for several hours before being able to access our room. Room was overall clean, but unable to use ceiling fan in main bedroom due to overload of caked on dust that we were worried would fall on us or the white bed covering and cause staining. No keys provide for balcony door to be able to lock when swimming in pool or going for a walk to the front shops, each time we left the room we had to travel all the way back around the property and through reception to get to pool or front of the building, without being worried someone would enter our room and take our belongings.

Our stay in Hervey Bay was brilliant but it had little to do with the accommodation. Oaks Resort is in a great location with easy access to excellent eateries and walking distance to Urangan pier, but it's highly recommended to book direct. This apartment is tired with dated trappings and minimal crockery. The check-in and out procedures are stressful and convoluted, as accessing this unit is not managed by the hotel. I sent a list of broken/missing items to the "host" privately, for feedback and he appeared attentive in responding. However, upon returning home I noticed a 2,000 UNauthorised transaction from the owner/host and rang the bank to dispute the charge, which is now pending a 4-6 week investigation and I await a new credit card. Please note: NO discussion nor approval was ever given regarding a deposit or bond. I contacted "Shane" who prior to had been cordial and attentive but funnily enough went completely silent when I disputed the 2K charge!? Twice I asked about the unauthorised transaction and it was only until I rang Stayz to complain that he wrote back to say that it was a "damage deposit" and an automated refund was on the way via VRBO. As usual, Caveat Emptor, BUYER BEWARE!
