Ideal base for exploring Hobart
This is a very nice place for a short stay in Hobart. Located on the transition point from CBD to residential, it's a 10-min walk into downtown, and the Elizabeth St restaurant strip is a short, easy walk, just a couple of small blocks away. Access into the property takes 3 seconds, using a touchpad and 4-digit code. Both QS were very comfy, with light ?woollen doonas on top, but no top flat sheet to fold over. It was nice to have ample room to stow all of our clothing in the generous wardrobes. There were extra blankets available. The physically-challenged may need to take extra care descending from the bedrooms via the narrow staircase with shallow steps. There was ample heating both upstairs and downstairs. The kitchen was very well equipped, although you need to know to manually select 'Micro' on the microwave/convection oven to get it to re-heat drinks etc. We eventually figured it out after thinking it didn't work at all. The bathroom and laundry were both excellent, with plenty of hot water at good pressure. There were plenty of good-quality towels, hand-towels, shower mats and facewashers etc. Weekday mornings see a small but noticeable increase in traffic noise just outside the building, but nothing overly annoying. There is free parking out the front of the property 8 am - 6 pm, with a 1-hour limit on the near-side, and a 2-hr limit on the other side of the road, meaning you'll need to move your car by either 9 or 10 am in the mornings, depending on where you park.

Great place in a great spot
We loved our stay at Justin’s place in West Hobart. Three of us stayed. House is clean, comfortable and conveniently located. It’s close to some great cafes and restaurants, in particular Bar Wa (best Japanese in Hobart). It is an easy 10-15 min walk to town. We would definitely stay again.

Cosy comfort
We had a very enjoyable stay here - the older aspects of the home give character and warmth to the home, while modern features provide comfort. Note - The stairs are quite steep and you need to be careful when using them.

Beautiful house, wonderful location and very easy booking. Lots of comments about the stairs being steep however I didn’t find that at all. Only thing was very dusty under the bed but that’s nothing when the house has everything you need.

Very well presented. We are both well into our eighties and able to cope with the bathroom being downstairs from the bedrooms. Others less agile need to keep this in mind.

Period terrace on doorstep of the CBD
Great property!! Others have mentioned the creaking and somewhat steep internal stairs, and this was certainly the case. To me, this reflects in the character of the house. Property was well located and had almost all the core things you would normally use at home including cling wrap and alfoil. Communicating with Justin was very easy, and he went a step further than most by providing some wood for the fire pit. We managed fine with the restricted hours on-street parking. We would happily stay here again... and bring our 'Baby Q' bbq with us. Cheers.

Great accommodation in a great location
The Best of Old and New is a lovely, comfortable place to stay in Hobart. The accommodation has everything you need for your stay, very comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, clean and plenty of space. Great location and close to the CBD and only a 15 - 20 minute walk to the Pier/Wharf and Markets. Definitely a great place to stay. Justin is a great host and very accommodating.

Lovely, comfortable house
I had a couple of changes of date due to Covid lockdowns but Justin was great in accommodating the date changes. The house is great, very roomy. It includes everything you need. The stairs to the bedrooms could be an issue for older or less mobile guests, care is needed. There is a light at the top of the stairs and I’d suggest you turn the light on before you head down the stairs at night. I loved the house, it’s a pity I was only there for 5 days.

Comfy and great location
A very cosy and comfy place for a short visit to Hobart. Very centrally located, we walked to many great eateries, into town, to the wharf and more. The beds were so comfortable and with heating plus electric blankets we were not cold. A fantastic shower with good pressure. Parking our rental car was a little tricky with limited all day parking but not too hard to overcome. I would definitely stay again.

The best of old & new
Property had all the amenities one would need however the stairs to upstairs bedrooms are very steep. As aspect no doubt of old 2 story houses in Hobart. Perhaps the outdoor furniture could have a recent clean as table quite dirty & multiple spider webs on chairs.

So close to walk to CBD, although parking is 2 hours we were out week days on day trips with the car. Small and cute, neat and immaculate, thoughtful touches like tea/coffee. Ms 12 said it was the most comfortable sofa bed she has slept on. Great kitchen, electric blankets on the beds was enough with no heaters in the bedrooms. Downstairs heaters were enough for evenings. We would stay again.

Great place to stay
This is from my friend who stayed, as I was unable to go due to Covid restrictions. But she assures me the townhouse was great. Cathy actually didn't use the upstairs bedrooms as she found the stairs too steep for her, lived in the lounge room, presumably on the sofa bed, but she said it was comfy and there was plenty of heating and blankets provided.

Hobart home from home
Great period house close to the funky shops and cafes of North Hobart and a 10-15 minute walk into the CBD and waterfront. Despite its vintage, the house has a modern kitchen and bathroom, washing machine and two very comfortable bedrooms and while the narrow, steep stairs outside and inside the house may not be for everyone, ditto the distance from the bedrooms to the bathroom, the fireplaces and wooden floorboards are lovely.

Great location
This house was in a great location. Easy walk to salamanca market and city centre about 15 minutes. House was great. Parking gets a little difficult during the week as you have to move your car ever 2 hours until 6pm but if you are going sightseeing this isn't an issue. Weekends are fine. I recommend choosing the back bedroom as you do hear a little street noise in the front bedroom but it's not too bad. This is a cute little place that I would highly recommend. Loved our stay.

Good value and location, best for short trips.
Comfortable (especially the beds) and quirky, we recommend this property for short stays in Hobart. It's well positioned for walking into the CBD (about 1/2 hour walk). However, the stairs to front door, and also those from lounge to bedrooms, are steep and narrow. It would be difficult to carry large or heavy cases up either. The only toilet is on the ground floor at the opposite end of the property to the upstairs bedrooms, so if you need the toilet in the night, you've got a bit of a hike up and down the narrow, and squeaky, stairs, to the other end of the house, and back. The beds, though, are very comfortable, the TV a good size, the neighbours friendly, and the area is nice and quite at night. I think this is decent value, though, despite the quirks, especially if you're coming into Hobart from the North, as it's fairly close to the CBD, without you having to drive through it to your rental.

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. The property is very clean and tidy with the new kitchen addition blending seamlessly into the old. It is very quiet and laid back locality given its proximity to the city and all amenities are within walking distance. You can stroll down to the cafes the wharf, the Salamanca markets, Museum and anything else you want t do in Hobart. There is parking right in front and you can drive out for day trips.

Great location able to walk or cycle to everywhere. Quiet at night. Friendly neighbor.
Great house with everything in. Parking annoying as had to keep moving it as was there for 10 days. Lots hot water. Heating in lounge way too noisy and was needed as was super cold when I was there. Front room heating great, quiet and efficient. Bed in room overlooking road needs a new mattress as supportive structure gone. Bookings and communication with owners easy and helpful. Everything was as described.

Thank you Philippa for your comments. The bed had a broken slat and has been repaired. The heatpump/aircon just needed a filter clean which has been done.Unfortunately , the local council won't provide parking permits for short-term guests. Thanks again for your feedback as it helps us improve.

Best of Old and New Hobart Truly
We stayed in this property for 3 nights in mid to late April 2018 with our nearly 2-year-old and nearly 5-year-old while vacationing in Tasmania from Atlanta, GA, United States. It was such a nice change of pace to arrive in Hobart and see what it had to offer from this centrally located townhome (meaning shared party walls on 1 side). Positives: (1.). Location, location, location. We found this to very centrally located for all of the activities (including MONA, Lake St. Claire NP, Salamanca Market, Bonarong Wildlife Sanctuary, take away food, and Woolworths) that we had planned while in Tassie. (2.). Relatively quiet place despite it’s moderately centralized location (3). Welcome items (Tassie Soda, Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate, bottled waters, and the attached business card) were a nice touch (4.) Comforable Beds (5.) Good water pressure (6.) Owner was responsive when asked Bottle-O locations and where to buy a new pram (ours was damaged in the airport) Negatives: (1.) Galley Kitchen made it a bit tougher to clean up and cook (2.) WiFi internet was too slow to stream things other then music (~10MBPS or even less when using a VPN - this is where Best of New Hobart could be improved) (3.) Lack of Clothes Dryer - the weather can be fickle in Hobart for line drying especially in mid-Fall (April) (4.) Stairs a bit slippery even for adults. Be sure to use handrails as they are quite narrow and steep. Yes, we understand it’s a 100+ year old home, but both us adults slipped how fortunately caught our falls. Re-consider the lacquer being used. Ultimately, we enjoyed our stay and Hobart is a beautiful place to visit. But for the slower Wi-Fi speed, I would actually give this place 5 stars!
