Great Fun!

The great room was a great place to gather for meals, games, & laughs. We loved the gazebo, lanai, & sunroom for morning yoga. How fun-tastic to come back “home” after daily excursions to play in the pool! We look forward to a return visit. :)

Quiet house with a fun backyard

We booked this place to stay closer to volcano national park. The place was a bit out of town in a nice quiet little hamlet with an amazing back yard pool. My friends and my kids had a great time in the pool and on the water slide.

Great location

We loved staying here. Plenty of room for everyone, quiet neighborhood, close to waterfalls, ocean, scenic drive and Hilo. The water slide was awesome! The outdoor space was great, kitchen was spacious.

Thanksgiving stay

This was a great place to stay. Lots of room for all 10 of us! The house was well stocked and the pool was great. We picked oranges and star fruit from yard which were delicious! I would recommend folks staying here if you have a large group!

Amazing home inside & out with a great location!

We all loved the slide, pool & hot tube. The house and pool area were even more spacious than the pictures. Everything was easy & the host was very responsive and helpful. The location is great, right next to waterfalls. We can't wait to go back.

This was a beautiful house that accommodated all fourteen of us ranging ages from 1-75. Everybody enjoyed the pool especially the water slide and there was plenty of rooms and beds for everyone will defiantly come back.

Hilo playground

Our family enjoyed a long awaited Christmas reunion at this lovely home in Hilo. We were a group of 13, which included two infants, two three year olds, and two 5 year olds. The family hadn't been altogether for 4 years due to the pandemic, and part of the family lives in Australia, so the location of the gathering was an important choice. We chose the right one! The house is roomy and offers many areas for relaxing, playing games, conversation, and beautiful views. The kitchen is fully equipped to cook up meals for any large group. The kids enjoyed many hours in the pool. We had a photographer come to take our family photo in the beautiful yard. Anthony was a considerate host who immediately responded to any question.

Teens LOVED the waterslide!

First, the house keeper does an amazing job! The place was spotless. Cleanest rental we have ever stayed at. Great location. Numerous private sleeping areas for our large group. The fold out mattresses from the sofas are like memory foam. So, don't write them off! Our oldest is 6' 4" and he had more then enough room, there was no bar in his back and he said it was very comfortable. I tried it out. It was very comfortable! It felt like a traditional bed. The other areas of the home, including the pool deck, also have more than enough seating. This was a big plus for our group, because there was eleven of us. The home also has a well stocked kitchen. It has every appliance/gadget you could imagine. It had plenty of cutlery, plates, bowls and serving pieces. This home was a great find. Highly recommend. And the owners are always quick to respond if you have any problems!

Perfect Family Vacation

We had three generations stay here (kids 6 & 8, parents and grandparents) and I’m not sure who had more fun: the kids or the “adult kids.” We were looking for a great property for everyone to enjoy and Honomu Place is everything we were hoping for and then some. If he’s not already, Anthony should teach a course in VRBO hosting—he is absolutely phenomenal to work with and is incredibly invested in making sure everything is fantastic for your entire stay. No need to pack much (we know from experience since our luggage was delayed) a swimsuit and sunglasses is all you need! The home is wonderfully stocked with spices, appliances, etc. But, we were not in the home much—the pool is where it’s at! It’s warm and refreshing and the cabana and deck are superb. We have rented homes nearly three times the cost and had more fun at this property than any other. We were in the pool by 7am (the slide is beyond awesome), enjoyed playing games on the deck in the evening…the kids wandered and found fruit in the yard and overall we found the property to be charming and magical. We ventured into Hilo for the Saturday market but found the house to be more fun than anything in town. Thank you to Anthony and his team for sharing this little slice of paradise with us! We hope to return again soon.

Pros and cons

ProsNice big kitchen and dining room.Beautiful yard with lots of trees.Comfortable beds in at least two bedrooms.Two nice bedrooms.Nice soft sheets.Clean floors.Nice couches in the den.Care taker living next door nice guy.ConsMost furniture inside and outside were stained, worn with holes and or wobbly.Squishy flooring on downstairs deck.Dingy towels.Awkward maze flow to the house and pool area.No paper or pens.Random pest control around the property.Not childproof.No Kamaaina rate offered.A lot of ants in the den bathroom shower.You have to hook up the tv from the closet in the den. WiFi ok, Not available in all the rooms. Maintenance people showing up at all hours. One day three times in one day, morning, noon and nite. Odd pool hours 9am-5pm.Pool slide never just worked. Always an issue turning on or off.Hot tub never worked.Odd and uncomfortable pool house bedroom made of cinderblocks and one opening window, fold out couch, air mattress and super thin top bunk mattress with plastic all over it. Must remove all your trash before you leave. SummaryWould rent in this neighborhood again but not this property.

The pool was the centerpiece!!

I am a stickler about cleanliness and this property did not disappoint. The kitchen was so well stocked with utensils and cooking implements. The A/C was wonderful. I don’t think we would have enjoyed the home without it. Many Lana is. There were 10 of us staying. I did rent the master. Beautiful back yard and location. Honomu is a quaint town. Nice coffee shop and small bakery. So many beautiful small hikes in the area. The Hilo market is a treasure. We went to mass at the Good Shepherd church up the street. Another treasure. Be sure to use the mats when sliding on the slide. A few of the children shredded the bottoms of their swim suits going down (many times) without them. All in all, this was a great place to stay for the week and it allowed us the opportunity to explore the east side of the big island. We read that it rains in Hilo a lot. There were a few passing brief showers but it didn’t affect our vacation at all. Also there is a neighborhood cat that comes for a visit , we enjoyed petting her. The owner told is not to let her in, in case there were any future guests with cat allergy. She didn’t even try to get in. I guess she knows the rules. Anyway, she was very sweet and loved to be petted. We also enjoyed the geckos. They eat bugs and never bother anyone. P.S. Don’t eat the Noni’s. LOL. (You can have fun figuring that out for yourselves)

Hawaii classic

Our family of 5 ranged in ages from 13-84. My husband& I, our two teens, and their grandfather. We spent a week on the Kona side of the Big Island and 5 days at this wonderful rental on the Hilo side of the island. Anthony is an excellent host. All rental communication was clear and efficient. Given my father-in-laws age we inquired about early check in and Anthony graciously accommodated us at no extra cost. Thank you!! Anthony understands that service and hospitality are just as important for vacation rentals as it is for hotel bookings. We met Anthony at the house, he gave a thorough overview of the entire house especially how to use the outdoor space. I’m glad he did and one could tell he has true pride of ownership and wants guests to have a great experience. Our kids, my husband and I all made use of the slide (super fun) and the jacuzzi. We have a 13 year old girl & 16 year old boy. They were having so much fun we had a hard time getting them to go inside. We used the outdoor space well into the night. It’s been a while since they had this much fun together just playing like old times - no electronic devices attached to their hands. The house itself is very clean, safe, comfortable, well appointed and in an excellent location for Akaka falls and not too far from Hilo. In addition to the outside fun, this house has a wide selection of board games. We had a ton of fun. This side of the island is so lush and gorgeous. I’m so glad we made the time to do both sides of the Big Island. We visited the farmers market in Hilo and visited Volcano National Park, Akaka falls, ate at Ed’s Bakery and also visited goat farm among other things. Thank you Anthony for sharing g your slice of heaven with our family.

Wonderful tropical retreat

My family and I loved our stay at Anthony's house in Honomu in mid-December. This house is truly a place to go to get away from everything. We were a party of 6 adults and 2 toddlers and had more than enough room. The grounds are huge with so many different spots where one could escape with a book or just be alone to meditate on the beauty of the surroundings. We loved how the kitchen, main living and dining areas were located upstairs with tons of windows letting in natural light. Hilo was about a 25 min drive away so we went there to stock up on food and happily relaxed at the house and enjoyed our own private pool and hot tub. The kitchen was well stocked with all the cooking tools we required. The surroundings are absolutely gorgeous, we spent many hours just having lovely conversation while staring at the view. We are early risers and we loved waking up with a cup of coffee in hand and marveling at the breathtaking array of stars one doesn't see in cities. We'd sit on the lanai or the sunny room off of it and watch the sun peak up over the ocean every morning. The short hike around Akaka falls was one of my favorite attractions on the Island and is only a few short miles from the house. We also stopped by Volcanoes National Park while in the area. We split our time in Hawaii between Honomu and a condo in the resort area of Waikaloa. The group agreed that we preferred the absolute serene lush beauty of Anthony's house in Honomu to the overly manicured resort scene. The Honomu house is in a very small, quiet town, away from city noise. We loved hearing the peaceful sounds of the wind blowing through the treetops and the chorus of frogs or birds. This was the first vacation rental experience for my mother as she has always been skeptical of renting one before. This house definitely won her over. She was enchanted by her stay and as we left I heard her fondly say, 'goodbye house, hope to see you next year.' Anthony and his house manager were both a pleasure to work with. We had one question during our stay and both Anthony and Monique were prompt in their reply. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a place to relax. We would absolutely love to return one day for a longer stay.

It was a lovely stay. My family and I enjoyed the amenities. The house was stocked with extra supplies from soap, sunscreen, toothbrushes, and toys for the pool. A home within paradise

This is our second time staying at Honumu place and it truly is a magical home. We came back with friends and their children, which made sharing the pool and the water slide memories even more special. The fully equipped kitchen made it easy for us to enjoy our adventures every day together the rooms offered the sleep amenities that we needed for the variety of ages that we had. We will look forward to coming back again in the future.

Packed with enchanting details

This rental made such good use of the one-acre lot - we enjoyed the mirthful pool and garden area, the garden, ocean and starlight views from an assortment of decks, lanais and gazebos. We felt like we hardly had to leave the property. But just a few minutes up the road were rocky beaches for whale-viewing, bamboo forests with waterfalls, and a cascading stream with refreshing swimming holes. Cannot wait to return to Honomu House.

Great family vacation house

10 people ranging in age from 4 to 78. We all had a wonderful time. Our only difficulty was that we were unaware that the host was out of town. His neighbour helped us but when we arrived he just initially introduced himself as Anthony's friend. Later in the conversation, we realized he was there to greet us and show us around. I did send Anthony a message during our stay and he got back to me right away.The house is lovely and spacious. The kitchen is very well equipped and easy to work in.The pool area is spectacular - we all really enjoyed the waterslide. The pool man came during our stay to maintain the pool.The grounds were very neat and tidy. There was some fallen fruit but that is to be expected as the trees were laden.I would certainly stay here again if travelling in a large group.

We've stayed at this Big Island gem twice now & already dream of returning! The property itself is a paradise for families, with plenty of space to spread out and relax. While the pool (a major highlight!) could have been cleaner upon arrival, it didn't dampen our overall enjoyment. We hope to see continued improvement on this aspect for future stays.

Fabulous house with amazing pool area

Our stay was amazing! We were there a week and for 3 of the days we didn't leave the property. The kids and adults all enjoyed the pool, slide, and jacuzzi with a wonderful lounging area that was shaded all day long for those of us with sun sensitivity. The kitchen was huge with TONS of dishes, silver, and cooking utensils. We cooked for nine every night. We all ate at the two tables moved together, and enjoyed the attached lanai with plenty of seating. The old Hawaii atmosphere, the spaciousness, the many lounging areas, the huge private yard and the complete privacy and quiet were wonderful. We had one minor issue that was resolved immediately as soon as we contacted Anthony. Our only real concern was the Garden room. It is detached from the house with a cabana 1/2 bath several feet away. The bath was unusable at times as the entire cabana was soaked during and after any rain. A dry bathroom was 75 steps away in the main house, most of the way walking in the rain. The room is also accessible from the street and is not lockable from the outside. With nine of us, our adult daughter ended up sharing a bedroom with her pre-teen nephews as we considered the Garden bedroom unusable. If you don't need the Garden bedroom, this place is absolutely amazing. We can't imagine finding a better house if we only needed four bedrooms or were willing to spring for the master suite. Thank you, Anthony!

Great but needs some love...

The overall property was a good option for our large group with lots of space and privacy. Loved the well stocked kitchen. The pool, hot tub and water slide were awesome. We gave this a 5 star based on the above and also that Anthony was very responsive and accommodating, however the property does need some TLC as well as some updated photos and descriptions of some of the spaces. The rooms as described were hard to figure out once we were at the property including some which were actually in the garage and not the main house. Small things like signage for which light switches controlled the fans, AC units and outdoor lighting, or a map would be helpful for future guests. The grounds are spacious and beautiful however very overgrown and in need of some love. We couldn't locate any fruit trees other than one that was hard to get to due to overgrowth. The rock bridge is the access point to the pool and sitting area however the rocky surface was challenging for some younger and older family member. Overall we would stay here again.
