Unfortunately this cottage (6 Clock Row, Thornham) didn’t meet the standards of other cottages we have stayed in before in Thornham, especially for the fairly high price paid. Stayed for a week in March 2018.
Negatives:
There were low windows which were easy to open (no locks). This was not safe for a toddler.
Low ceiling into back bedroom, husband hit his head several times.
Dangerous bunk bed in back bedroom which rocks side to side, personally would not let any child on it.
Dangerous, old looking cot, would not pass any health and safety test. Very unstable with pins and chains fixings. Didn’t use as had own cot.
There should be warnings in the description of the cottage for the above points.
Bed in big room is extremely soft and is therefore very uncomfortable.
Steep stairs, should have safety gate if allowing young children to stay.
Storage heaters not very good and have been set very low. During a very cold spell staying here the cottage was very very cold. Blankets were available. There is a log fire but unsure how to use or if it is safe.
Positives:
Fantastic location for North Norfolk coast, Titchwell RSPB, Cley Norfolk Wildlife Trust, Holme Norfolk Wildlife Trust and Holkham Hall.
Big kitchen and dining room.
Cottage was clean.
Norfolk Hideways were friendly and helpful when booking the cottage. I’m not sure how often they check their cottages, but maybe this particular cottage should be reviewed by Norfolk Hideaways.
Would not recommend especially families with young children.
