Our Idyllwild Family Get away

We had a lovely long weekend. Adrien was very attentive to our needs. He brought another BBQ and even found us 2 pool cue sticks.The windows could use some curtains to block the early morning sun.My adult children want to do this every year to celebrate my husbands birthday.It was a little difficult to find, the “ blue sign arrow” was placed at a odd angle so the turn was unclear.

Reviewer Comments: Some minor issues: shuffleboard leaned, pool table bumpers broken, pool cue had no tip, grill had broken legs and lid, only one propane tank without splitter, wheels broken on lower dishwasher rack, porch lights had broken prongs on male end and couldn't be plugged in. Wonderful views, marvelous deck. Overall, beautiful cabin that slept our large party comfortably.

Great Cabin, Better View!

Had a great time at this cabin! It was easy to get to and a quick drive to the center of town. The views from the patio were fantastic and despite having a large group we never felt cramped. Definitely recommend for a weekend getaway!

Great nature retreat for a friend group!

Went here with my book club and it offered the nature and serenity we were looking for. Expect the property manager contacts to potentially take a few hours to answer questions on the weekend - but overall they offered a straightforward check in and check out process and I appreciated their binder in the living room as a reference for house rules!

Great Experience

We had a great stay in the Moonlight mountain retreat! We did relax in the hot tub, played Billiard and enjoyed the views. There were just some minors issues that I rated it with 4 stars.

Fabulous Snowy Getaway

Our group had a wonderful time in this beautiful mountain home. It had everything you need for a lovely weekend getaway with friends. The hot tub was perfect for the cold wintry weather. The beds were super comfortable. And the abundance of games, pool table and shuffleboard added some much needed competition amongst friends. We would definitely recommend.

80th Birthday celebration

We had a great time celebrating at this beautiful home. The view was perfect. The slippery Ivey road at the top of the hill was the only issue we experienced.

Fun Family Weekend

The house was amazing. Our group of 10 had plenty of room to share meals and hang out on the deck with more than enough seating. The kitchen had everything we needed to make full meals, even the pots and pans were really nice. Most of the time in Rentals the pots are horrible. We had a great time at the property, would definitely return.

Christmas Cabin

Moonlight retreat was beautiful! It was already decorated for Christmas with a tree and all! The layout is quirky, in a good way! So much woodwork, really felt like we were in a cabin! We were super close to town, but you wouldn’t know it. Lots of hikes within a few minutes. The deck was incredible, comfy, and the views were great! Hot tub was wonderful and stayed hot! It was so peaceful and relaxing all around.A couple things to note, no curtains on most windows, so it’s bright, but beautiful to wake up to Mountain Views. Cabin road was steep and windy so we were grateful there was no ice or snow, otherwise it could have been tricky getting to the cabin. Overall, we would definitely recommend this cabin! We loved our time here!

Interesting layout but great with 3 living spaces for everyone to spread out. Love the deck and hot tub. Finding the house is a challenge. They almost need to have a map included in directions.

Gorgeous Mountain Setting for Large Families

We had a large family with 5 children. Everyone had a place to sleep and plenty of area to play. We cooked almost all meals and the kitchen, breakfast nook, and large dining room table were great. The property was fun -- climbing, hiking opportunities everywhere! We set up a telescope on the deck for the moon at night and the acorn woodpeckers during the day. We would definitely come back! Negatives: We tried to contact the property owner 3 times with questions and only got a response once. Also, we ran out of toilet paper on day 2 because no extra was stocked. We were reassured that some would be delivered, it wasn't, and we had to go to the store and buy some.

Beautiful Retreat

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Moonlight Mountain Retreat accommodated our family of 8 with ease. Plenty of bedding and towels, and i was pleasantly surprised to find even the mattress cover on the pull out couches were clean! Kitchen was well stocked. It was quiet, peaceful, and really a beautiful setting, yet just a few minutes drive to town so it was easy to make as many trips as we wanted. We had lots of fun with the pool table and shuffle board, and the multiple TV’s were great. The house is so unique and all of the wood working is gorgeous. Even though it was extra hot weather and the house doesn’t have AC, the rental provided fans, there is actually quite a bit of shade over some areas of the house, and at night the temp was perfect for sleeping with the windows open. We would definitely stay here again.

Very disappointed!!!

I hate to leave this review but I hope it will help other people when booking in Idyllwild. Due to windows and doors not sealing, we had an issue with mice starting the evening we checked in. New Spirit was very helpful by bringing traps to help take care of the problem. However, even with the additional traps, we continued to see mice throughout our stay. On the day before we checked out, there were baby mice in blanket used by our grandson. On top of the problem with mice, the house was extremely warm due to not being able to open all the windows. Most of the windows were missing screens so they could not be used without letting bugs getting in the house. We were not able to utilize the upstairs bedroom with single beds. It was too hot to sleep in that room. We were in communication with New Spirit Vacations throughout our stay. They were extremely helpful. The last night they moved us to a different house that was much nicer. I would not hesitate to rent one of their houses due to them making up for the issues during our stay. However, I would not stay in this house until they address the mice, screens, and a few other maintenance items.

Summer Visit

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The Pros outweighed the Cons. The house was open with ample furniture. It has a pool table, shuffleboard, games a plenty, and a turntable with some great albums. There is an awesome deck and beautiful view. The location is great...less than a mile to town and close to some of the best hiking spots. The Cons: We stayed here in late June and the outside temps were around 85 degrees. The house does not have any A/C nor many window coverings, so it was miserably hot except for the entry way room and the room with the pool table. The upstairs bedrooms got terribly hot even with fans. It helped to open windows, but there were not many that had screens, so you couldn't or you'd be eaten by bugs. Also, with no window covers, expect to be awakened around 5:30-6:00 am (not necessarily a bad thing if you're on vacation I guess). This may be a better rental for winter than summer. We checked out a day early, simply because it was too hot to spend another night. But the check-in process was easy and it really is a nice home. Just don't think about staying there when it's hot out.

Mice in the house, missing window & door screens

It's a shame but this property is not well kept. I have been coming to Idlywild for many years staying in vacation homes. This is the first time I have stayed at a property that was unacceptable. Aside from little things I did not complain about, like the outside decks not being cleaned (covered with dust, pollen and no cushions put out), as well as cobwebs everywhere, window screens missing, no sliding door screen, meaning we could not open them because bugs, birds and critters can get in, along with little air ventilation because master fan was not working and it was hot - we were faced with mice in the house. Apparently this was not a new problem as we noticed later there were little traps of which one had a fresh dead mouse in it in the cushion closet. The mice we saw started late at night, running in the game room and middle dining room, one was in the closet climbing the walls. We noticed there is a gap between the garage carport wall and floor in the game room where they can come and go freely. The management company did find us a new place at 11:30 at night which was appreciated but they did not adjust the price as the other place was smaller and rented for much less per day. Needless to say, bad experience overall. Hopefully the problems at Moonlight have been addressed by now- ask before booking.

Breath of Fresh Air

My family, mom, mom's boyfriend, brother, brother in law, son (18), son (15), and I stayed here for a weekend. Celebrating my 18 year olds bday, we spent the weekend relaxing,competing, and playing games. The home is charming and well laid out for space. My dog and I really enjoyed the deck and the skylight in the card room. The kitchen is well situated as it's close to the deck and a living room and also well equipped. I only took a few prefered kitchen tools. This home offered many nice touches. We all enjoyed the turntable and LPS of ranging classic to contemporary sounds. The game room was an instant hit. We all played pool and shuffleboard. One wall in the game room had no power. We didn't mind though as we didn't need TV and just moved the heater to the other wall. I slept on the couch upstairs and in both of the twin beds, both were comfortable. Our weekend there was totally awesome. I would stick to walking on the roads rather than inbetween the homes though. I attempted to walk down to see the boulders and the neighbor lady scolded me for being on her property. I was 25 yards away from her home walking my dog, coffee in hand. I did not think I was close enough to bother nor looked like trouble. That was the only low, but not related directly to the home. I recommend this retreat to all.
