Tulloch Castle Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"From start to finish, we had a wonderful stay at the Tulloch Castle Hotel. The staff were amazing, above and beyond helpful, efficient, and sociable. The room was fantastic, with amenities you don’t always see in UK hotel rooms. We loved the attention to detail, including the sitting chairs in our room with luxurious, warm blankets. Would highly recommend the Green Lady Bar, where honestly the food menu might have been better than the restaurant, and where the fire kept us warm and cozy throughout the evening!"

"Arrived late and luckily there was a staff member just leaving that phoned for us to save us the phone call (we only had a data phone plan). They had left our key in our unlocked room. Took a minute to find it under the coffee cup but then it was all good from there. Loved the street and area. So walkable. Great live music in the pubs."

Mercure Inverness Hotel

"Pros of Mercure Inverness: Fabulous location. Large room. Comfortable bed. Near a grocery co-op. Coffee house, cafes, etc. The breakfast was worth the additional cost. Staff, friendly and nice. Cons. VERY dimly lit room. Bathroom, likewise, low light. I suspect they're saving money by using what look like low-watt yellow bulbs. One of the tracks for the drapes was badly broken, it was near impossible to pull closed. Evidently they're also saving money by making the room ventilation system as weak as possible. THE ROOM WAS INCREDIBLY "stuffy", warm - needed air. I had the "cooling" fan on the highest it would go, with a low temp chosen but it had zero effect. The coffee-maker is on a permanent shelf in the closet. It could not be pulled forward to make coffee, so you have to reach IN to do it. But the closet was so dark it wasn't possible to see what I was doing. They need to either move the location of the coffee-maker or install a light in the closet. Last: admittedly, the hotel cannot control this: but it is located in a neighborhood of several pubs. I was on the 1st floor. The noise from partying in the street continued until about 3 AM each night I was there. I played white noise on headphones to get to sleep. As they say - it's all in the details. I would not stay here again."
