Kolkata is a BIG city and for this middle class Westerner, the hotel rates satisfactory in overall terms; think Super 8. That given, I feel I got what I paid for - for my short stay. The hotel reception staff was cordial and spoke English well. They were even able to help me change my INR 2000 note to INR 100 notes. Security staff on hand did an excellent job with getting my UBER car and out of the hotel's small drop off area. They were at the door 100% of the time to open the door for guests and assist with getting taxis.
My only complaint, really, was with the cleanliness of the room. Once installed in my room, I sat on the bed to check e-mail and from under the bedside table out crawls a cockroach; I killed it and then reminded myself I was in India and not a 5 star hotel. The wall opposite the bed, which held the small TV, was really filthy and could have used a wipe down; the headboard had what appeared to be soda spray stains on it, the ceiling in the bathroom was dirty and the pillows did not appear clean.
At night - after 11 PM - I felt the other guests, primarily Indian, were loud and held little respect for other guests. Many let the hard doors slam shut; one group kept their hotel room door open for all to see.
This is a "family" hotel and the restaurant (not the one where you have breakfast) does not sell alcohol. The restaurant has a large selection of Indian dishes, some Chinese and Western flavors. My palak paneer w/garlic naan was excellent.
