In the fishing village you can buy smoked flounder, sit on one of the bridges and enjoy the peace and quiet. Norra Gotland is home to several former limestone quarries with swimming lakes. If you don't want to have sand between your toes all the time while swimming, take a swim in one of these lakes. In Rute you will also find the nature reserve Bräntings Haid with a rich flora (sand thyme, buttercups, thistles) and the bird species woodlark and nightjar.
