We stayed at a hotel (a parador) on the grounds of Castillo de Lorca and loved it. Dungeons, archers, an oversized chessboard, a really big key and a stunning view of Lorca at night. And the hotel had a pool, a small spa and a restaurant so we never had to get in our car if we didn’t want to. I didn’t even know what a parador was, but they’re hotels built on the grounds of antiquities. Spain has so many they built the hotels to encourage people to visit the lesser known sites. Ours was beautiful—we liked it so much we booked a second night.

This hotel is all about location with fantastic views and close proximity to the castle. The pool was a bit disappointing as the pool itself and the pool area were particularly warm so not altogether refreshing on a hot day. We enjoyed an evening meal outside in the cafeteria area. Breakfast was okay but a bit expensive for what is on offer. Overall, a good stay but subject to the exceptional views not particularly special.
