The room was super clean and we loved the private balcony. The staff was very warm and friendly. The breakfast was really good with several different options. We will definitely be back!
Hillside Inn was very nice. Room was clean and comfortable. Bed was comfortable. Balcony was very nice with a beautiful view of the city. All of the staff that I interacted with were lovely and very helpful. The overall building could use some maintenance. Would absolutely stay again.
The staff was very nice and the breakfast was decent. However, if you are not staying on the south side of the hotel, not only do you not have a view but the room is tiny and dark, and there is nowhere to go to see the view that the south siders enjoy. Also, this is a golfcart town with carts for rent but they are not allowed on the property.
We loved the private balcony, the jetted tub, fireplace, and kitchenette in the room that we rented. The bed was comfortable, lots of comfy pillows, and overall it was clean. Loved the view from the balcony. It is a little walk to town and to the river, especially on the way back, up the hill, lol, but worth it. Every staff member that we encountered was very friendly and helpful, from check-in to breakfast, and housekeeping. We’ve stayed here a few times and will stay again!
Enjoyed my stay here. Good location easy to get to main Madison district and good view of the river. Exterior looks dated but don’t let that put you off as the rooms are renewed and have high quality towels and bedding. Helpful staff and I really enjoyed the comfortable recliner in the room after riding a motorcycle through the area all day. I would definitely stay here again.
If you are looking to stay in an older Historic hotel with a great view give this one a try. The rooms are nicely finished and have as many modern amenities as one would expect. Your own private balcony is a real plus with views of the Ohio river and down town Madison. Walking to either is easy from this location as well if you so desire. The lobby is a neat tidy greeting place with it's own coy pond. Pictures of the original hotel in it's several iterations adorn the walls. One dating back to 1870! We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the experience.
This historic hotel has beautiful rooms and a great view of the Ohio and downtown Historic Madison. I highly recommend it if you are visiting Madison. Make sure you request a river-side room.

The bed room was nice. The staff were friendly. The view was amazing especially at sunset. However the fact that there was a humidifier in the room that needed to be empty twice while in overnight stay and a meh breakfast makes it a little low on score.
The staff are some of the friendliest I have ever met in all my travels. The hotel is adequately maintained for being an older hotel.
The room we initially stayed in had a dank smell and the bed linens felt damp. The manager put us in another room which was better. The lobby had a couple dehumidifiers running, so I think there is a moisture issue with the property.
There were many happy guests, so most people, including my husband, aren't put off by the age of the Hillside Inn or the moisture Issues. It has views you can't find anywhere else.
