Tikal was absolutely incredible. get there early and do the sunrise tour. You'll get to watch the sunrise from the top of the tallest Myan pyramid yet discovered. You get to watch as the jungle just comes alive. The birds wake up, and then the monkeys, and then the other animals of the rainforest. it was a beautiful experience. Do it sometime in the months of December - February so that you will be more likely to actually see the sunrise in a clear sky as opposed to shrouded by early morning fog.

Tikal is the remains of an ancient Mayan city in the rainforest of Guatemala. It's one of the largest archaeological sites of the Mayan civilization, and it's a fascinating experience to walk amongst the ruins. #tikal #guatemala
Tikal can be reached from the tranquil lakeside town of Flores. Not to be missed. Get there early, it's worth booking the 4;30am shuttle bus from Flores to get to Tikal for sunrise. Do not get involved in a tour! Get the shuttle and then go off on your own into the jungle! You will have the place more or less to yourself, and will come across wildlife too! We saw coati's, spider monkeys, toucans and other colourful birds and the sound of a jaguar! Don't miss it! Tip for accommodation in Flores, Villa De Lago. Safe, secure, ultra clean, view of the lake and the nicest and most helpful family of staff!

Having a lake with beach access was amazing. The sauna and pool was wonderful. The restaurant was pretty unremarkable. It was nice that breakfast was included but some of the items on the breakfast buffet was at room temperature. WIFI is super spotty in the rooms.

Very clean and in the park, so great for early sunrise starts . Staff are helpful. Food was very good and lots of choice on the menu. They will help you with anything you need , and they picked us up from the AirPort for a fee.
