We traveled to the Cooperstown area as a celebration trip for my husband‘s birthday. He chose the trip destination, the Baseball Hall of Fame, and this was a great location/cottage to use as “home base” for a few days. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the areas of Cooperstown, Milford and Cherry Valley. It was a laid-back time of year to be a tourist in this area. We have used VRBO several times, and give this cottage 4 stars for a couple of reasons. I would highly recommend that you thoroughly read the description of the cottage and acquaint yourself with all of the idiosyncrasies of this rental. I am usually pretty good at doing that but there were a couple of things I missed. The running/tapwater is not potable, however drinking water is provided in a large cooler. Not a huge inconvenience however something to be aware of. We were not informed ahead of time that the dock would be taken out of the water at the time we arrived. My husband is a fisherman as well and was looking forward to sitting on the dock to fish and was not able to do that. Basically all of the outdoor amenities were closed down for the season and we were not informed of that. It was very cold at night low of 29° and the heating was by a woodstove which took us a little while to figure out, no central heat or A/C. Having never operated a woodstove it was a bit of an adventure! Two things I would recommend to the owner are more comfortable seating in the living room - need a new couch and the linens and bed pillows were a bit shabby.
That being said, we enjoyed the cottage by the lake, the view is fantastic and the proximity to all attractions in the area worked for us!
