Perfect getaway retreat

We enjoyed our stay at Herons rest. It is an older home but it is charming and cozy. We loved sitting on the deck soaking up the views and the hot tub was a bonus!

Heron’s Rest- Great Place

The property was clean, well equipped, comfortable inside and out, and very private, A perfect vacation rental for all age groups. Highly recommend staying at this property.

Great place to stay

This is our families second stay at herons rest. We really enjoy the privacy while still being so close to everything. We had a great time fishing for striper with captain Bert and an airplane tour of the lake. The fenced in backyard is great for the pup.

Great vacation spot

The house was great as was the location. Kids enjoyed the pool and foosball. Even though we went in the winter, we loved relaxing in the hot tub and gathering around the fire pit. The owner/management company was super responsive - texting back right away, answering questions and just generally very helpful.

Wonderful home on Smith Mountain Lake

The deck overlooking the lake and the dock area were fantastic. Kitchen well-equipped with dishes, utensils, cookware, spices, etc. Beds were comfortable and indoor amenities including TV's, pool table and foosball table as well as modern washer and dryer were good for our traveling party.

Great stay!

Great house on the lake. The layout was perfect for family. We all had privacy and quiet at night, but great family spaces during the day. We took our dog with us and he really enjoyed the fenced portion of the yard (we did too, that amenity is hard to come by). Highly recommended and we are already planning a time to stay there again.

House was perfect for our spring break getaway. Clean, neat, comfortable. Kids loved the canoe and dock for (cold!) spring swimming. Great area for the dogs to run around safely. Great view over the lake for sunsets and star gazing.

We loves this property, we had young children and dogs and it was absolutely perfect. Fenced in yard and a gated deck that we could let everyone roam freely. The beach was great with kids, it could use a little raking but overall very usable fun area. Beautiful views! Perfect for our weekend getaway

Great home and location

This was our second family trip to SML. This location was better than the first. Close to Moneta (10min) and closer drive for us from home, fenced in yard was nice for our dog and the kids really enjoyed the pool table. Lots of space and the beds were awesome. We're going to try and get this place next year.

Great place on the lake

We had a wonderful stay. The boys enjoyed learning about bass fishing from Billy Kohls. Great hikes nearby. Hot tub was fantastic after the cold days. Wonderful fenced in backyard for our pups. Lots of games for rainy day, just wish there would have been pool stick chalk so my husband could’ve taught my son pool table shots. Excellent location! We would stay here again

45th anniversary

We wanted to find a nice place to get away for our 45th anniversary and we found it at the Heron at Smith Mountain Lake. The house had a lot to keep us busy and never bored. Had to make one call after all the rain and they had someone there within 25 minutes. The house was cozy and so open, bed was really comfortable.

Lovely Lake Retreat

We loved staying at Heron's Rest! We are a family of 7 adults plus 1 dog, and everyone had a blast. The house was just right for us and everything was clean and in good working order. The walk to/from the lake and the house is a bit steep, but it's not a problem as long as you are in reasonably good shape. The dock was one of our favorite places, as there are plenty of chairs and a canoe to enjoy. We also used it for docking a jet ski and pontoon boat that we rented, as well as for launching ourselves into our inflatables and doing some leisurely floating around. We also took advantage of the fire pit to roast marshmallows and make s'mores. We only wish we could have stayed longer.

It was fine, except hot tub barely functioned.

Beds: check! Quiet: check! Hot tub: Maybe working 30%. ☹️. But that seems to be normal. The last few places my wife and I have been, the website says hit tub, but each time the tub is barely functioning. Sad. We won’t get tricked again by VRBO.

What a comfortable stay!!

We had such a nice week at Heron’Rest. The only thing I would suggest, please inform that the master is up a small flight of stairs. We had my 95 year old mother with us. She handled it, but it could have been a problem. Otherwise, well equipped, spotlessly clean, a beautiful property, and even a fenced in yard for our fur babies!

Fall Getaway

The house is conveniently located with easy access to the State Park for hikes with our dogs and has a great fenced in area for the dogs.
