We stay every year and it feels like home. It's perfect for our family. The location is great, we have rooms for the kids, the beds are comfortable, and everything we need is there. The home has a lot of history and the interior is so typical Carmel. The owner and property manager are very responsive.The front yard allows for outside seating and the garden is so pretty and spacious. We'd recommend for anyone looking to stay in Carmel.

a special place

This is a historically significant home with modern appliances, much space, a beautiful garden, and a short walk to the ocean. This is our second stay and, if in the future we plan to spend time in Carmel, we'll try for a third.

We stay every year

We love staying here. We can escape the heat back home, enjoy the walks to the beach, sit inside or outside for meals or walk into Carmel for a meal at a restaurant. The beds are comfy, the place has everything you'd need and we have no complaints. We'll be back next year.

Garden Paradise

This charming, eclectic cottage with a beautiful garden surrounding the entry. We woke up with the sunrise and fell asleep to the sound of the ocean. It is a mile walk into town with easy access to Carmel Beach, only a 5-7 minute walk away, depending on your route. My only caution is that the beds are somewhat soft. My husband and I prefer much firmer beds for our backs. We would rent again. If you like old charming cottages, then this is definitely the place for you.

This is an Annual Golf Trip 22 years

This was our third year in Carmel and it is just the greatest place to stay at for the three visits but it seems next year has already been booked by others so we are disappointed to not return for 2025. But for those who have not experienced ‘The Cottage’ it is great.

Great vacation at historic Carmel property

We stayed for a month and wish we could have stayed longer. The property is just as described, a historic house with modern amenities. Both the property manager and the owner were proactive in reaching out to us during the storm and ensured we had everything we needed. Hope to stay here again soon.

Wedding retreat

Great location for walking to beaches. We were easily able to walk into town. The surrounding neighborhood is beautiful. Interior design of the house is sweet. The artwork on the walls is very enjoyable.

Loved the cabin! Much better than expected–pictures did not due it justice. Location, just two blocks from the miles-long Carmel boardwalk overlooking the coastline. Can walk downtown and to Carmel and Carmel River beaches. Super easy parking.

Beautiful cottage in the heart of Carmel!

We loved everything about this cottage! It’s in the perfect location and has the most beautiful gardens. We felt at home the minute we walked through the door. Highly recommend! I can’t wait to go back again.

Marvelous property and best location in Carmel

This historical gem is a well preserved treasure and the gardens are magical. Our family had such a great time here and this is a very special place that is so unique and great, I am a little worried about sharing our review, in case too many people know about it and its just booked up forever. You won't be disappointed in your stay and the owner and caretaker are top notch and very responsive.

We stayed at the Cottage of the River Winds for a week while my son and his wife were house hunting in the area. The house is rustic, but clean and comfortable, and has a lot of charm. Location is excellent close to Scenic Road and great for walking. The host, Krys, was very helpful and very responsive. I would highly recommend this place.
