Pine Grove Cottage - Romantic Getaway on Private Lake

Fully furnished cottage in the woods with backyard opening to pine trees and four acre pond. Cottage has wood floors, window air conditioners and homey furnishings. Perfect for a family retreat or a romantic getaway. Located on our 50 acre working ranch, Pine Grove Cottage is tucked away on its own corner of the property with private drive and gated entrance. A sun room runs the length of the house in the back and looks out on the pine grove and lake beyond. An open family room/dining/kitchen is perfect for family gatherings. Guests are free to roam the ranch property which includes expanses of wooded acreage where wildlife and birds abound. Fishing on the lake is available on a "catch and release" basis to ensure fishing remains good for future guests. Lakes are stocked with bass, catfish and bream.

The ranch abounds with wildlife and provides a wonderful opportunity for birdwatching due to its forest and lake features. It is also in a migratory area that is home for many birds (including Bald Eagles) in the fall/winter months. Permanent bird residents are many and varied from songbirds to ducks, herons. hawks, cranes, owls, woodpeckers, and many more.

Canoes and boats are provided for those who want to go out on the lake to fish or just relax. Located within 15 minutes of Pittsburg, Gilmer, and Winnsboro, guests can experience life in the country but enjoy the amenities of a town. In the summer, fresh peaches, blackberries and blueberries are sold at nearby orchards. Golfing, a winery and a variety of restaurants are within 15 minutes of the ranch. For those who enjoy antiques, there are many shops within 15-30 minutes of the ranch.

Peaceful and Relaxing

This little cabin has everything you need for a comfortable stay. If you’re a fisherman then you won’t have any problem catching fish. My husband probably caught about 30 fish over 3 days. Most were small but he did catch a 4 lb bass and 7 lb catfish. The sun porch facing the water is perfect for reading a book and enjoying the view. Beds were comfortable. We will definitely be back!!

Father’s Day Guys Trip…

My boys took their dad and grandad on a guys fishing trip for the weekend and they had an absolute blast! They said it was quiet and peaceful. The place was well stocked and comfortable. They really enjoyed the private pond and each caught 30+ bass. They said the provided breakfast food and fresh eggs were delicious. They also brought blackberries home that the owner gave to them from their garden and I made blackberry cobbler with them. They haven’t stopped talking about how much fun they had! Such a cute fun place to getaway from it all.

Wonderful Time

Me and my wife were very happy with all areas of our trip to this property. Very peaceful, quite absolutley beautiful view from back enclosed room and back yard. If you do not like spending time in the outdoors or are looking for a high tech modern vacation this is probably not for you. But if you are looking for a comfortable ( beds very comfortable ) peaceful place to enjoy the outdoors and fishing along with a cabin set in the piney woods then THIS IS FOR you. We both loved our stay and would gladley return for another trip.

I always love staying at Mrs. Paula Archer’s rentals. They’re always so homely and comfortable. All rooms have fantastic ceiling fans and soft furnishings. The kitchen is always equipped for normal dinners, with all the silverware and seasonings. The extensive outside area is always a plus for us, that’s why we’ll drive nearly 2 hours just to stay with her. I can’t wait to return, but I will absolutely book for more than two nights. I want to stay an entire week! I also hope to experience better weather. It was too cold to fish while we were there. Texas weather changes on a dime. Thanks again for a relaxing visit. -Mary

East Texas Sanctuary

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, this is the place for you. Authentic and well-provisioned cottage in the piney forest with a beautiful 10 acre lake in your back yard. Every detail is taken care of and it comes with lots of extras that you do not have to pay extra for, like access to canoes/paddles, flat bottom boats, life preservers, fire pit, corn hole, board games, everything you could possible want or need in the kitchen (very different from most VRBO rentals), satellite TV, wifi, and they even leave frozen biscuits with a local fresh raspberry jam to welcome you to the rental. There are also cute places to eat within easy driving distance (8 to 10 miles) from the cottage. Finally, the fishing is quite good, especially if you like to fly fish. We slayed the bluegill and bass on fly! All catch-n-release, but very productive fishery. You will not be disappointed. Great for friends or a family needing some time away to bond. Highly recommend!

Amazing Weekend

My family and I love to find places out in East Texas. This place did not disappoint at all! It had everything we needed and plenty of room inside for us. But the best part was the beautiful outdoors immediately in the backyard. We stayed outside most of our time there, which is why we left the city for the weekend. We plan on returning as many times as we can. Paula is a great host and very kind.

Good old east Texas countryside

The cabin was very clean and tidy and there were good dishes and pots and pans, and everything you need. We stayed in the king bed and it was comfortable enough. The heat and air worked well. We really enjoyed the beauty of the area and the big trees in the back. Paula was a great host and was easy to communicate with. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was due to the seating in the living area. Great large screen TV, but the little couches in the room are very small and quite uncomfortable for any long term sitting or lounging. We found them hard to relax on comfortably. But we really enjoyed our stay overall. Its a cute little place.

Had a great time!

Our family had a great time. Place was absolutely beautiful and clean. We spent most of our days around the pond fishing. The kids and I had a blast fishing. We caught some huge bass (6lb 1oz was the biggest but had a couple bigger ones get off) big catfish and absolute giant bluegill. Definitely a relaxing week. The house had everything you need for a week stay.
