We chose this as a base for a weekend of Appalachian Trail hiking and local (downtown Frederick, as it turned out) sightseeing.
If you're an AT hiker, this house is ideal! It's very near multiple AT parking locations:
-Turner's Gap/Old South Mountain Inn
-Ensign Cowall parking
-I-70 AT overpass parking area on US-40.
There others, but these are the ones we used...all within a 10 minute drive for shuttling hikers to AT trailheads.
The large rear laundry room with its full-size kitchen sink and large counter was excellent for preparing packs and hydration systems.
Other non-AT trails are also easy reached from this house (in various Maryland state parks nearby).
History buffs will appreciate its proximity for exploring the South Mountain corridor and Civil War history of the region. Antietam (battlefield) and Frederick (Civil War medicine museum, great downtown) are nearby.
Host Lisa was awesome, the views are fantastic. Select with confidence! For our AT hiking weekend: it was perfect!
The house is clean and as listed. Please look at the listing (and reviews!) carefully. This house is nearly 125 years old (and has several distinct "eras" represented in its construction and additions). If "modern and minimalist" are what you seek, the quirkiness stemming from the home's age (modern conveniences we take for granted clearly were added after the original construction) may leave you frustrated and you might want something newer.
