Experience the rush of adrenalin as you swoop down runs and go cross-country skiing through the fjord landscape of this west Norwegian resort.

Ski and snowboard along the sunny slopes of Myrkdalen, a Norwegian resort that benefits from a huge amount of snow cover. It lays claim to having one of the highest annual snowfalls among European ski resorts. All ages and abilities can find their place on the 22 slopes, terrain parks and off-piste areas.

Accomplished beginners and intermediates can try the Myrkdalsløypo or Strandaløypo slopes, while advanced riders should make their way onto the black graded Leinevegen and Ondrahaugen. Enjoy a drink at a mountain café before you head to the highest point in the ski area. Once here, take your pick of the two red runs that twist and turn their way down Finnbunuten, one of the highest mountains in the region.

Freestyle riders will be delighted to find three terrain parks at Myrkdalen. Take on moguls and drops or perfect your carves and airs on a selection of boxes and rails. Novices are also well catered for with four green slopes, which are also suitable for children.

Go cross-country skiing on the groomed tracks at Årmotslia, just over the road from the resort. Ski at night across its 3.1-mile (5-kilometre) illuminated loop. Challenge yourself with some backcountry skiing through the mountains around Myrkdalen, including Bjørndalskamben. At 4,600 feet (1,402 metres) this is the highest peak in the area.

If you want to brush up on your skills or learn some new ones, sign up for the ski school. There are lessons in snowboarding and alpine, nordic and telemark skiing. All levels are welcome.

Among the non-skiing activities are sledging and horse-drawn sleigh rides.

Myrkdalen is in western Norway, approximately a 2-hour drive northeast of Bergen and 5 hours northwest of Oslo. You can also take the train from both these locations. The nearest international airport is in Bergen. Myrkdalen’s main ski season runs from November to April, while backcountry skiing can often extend into May and June. Accommodation options, include a hotel, cabins and apartments.

"I made a reservation for August 8 instead of August 2, by mistake. Instead of changing the date of the reservation, they charged us for August 2 and refused to refund what we had paid for August 8. Expedia was also no help."
