This place was incredible! We loved our stay so much that we are going to visit again at a time we can stay at this hotel! The rooms were clean and comfortable, the slopes were right at the doorstep with a ski school for kids and sledding too. Transportation was available to take us to dinner at other places. The restaurant on site was exceptional, the breakfast was so good each day and then we had dinner with live music and had the most wonderful night. Highly recommend!
This is a wonderful, cozy, lovingly managed inn right on the slopes of Happo-One. Ski-in/ski-out access with a dry room to store gear in the basement. Fantastic German restaurant on the first floor, serves filling and delicious set breakfast daily that was included with our booking, and we had excellent dinners there two nights during our stay. Limited hours for lunch (disappointed they were closed for lunch on certain weekdays, but not sure if that is due to COVID or just their standard operations). The room we stayed in was large and comfortable, included a couch, and had a beautiful view of the slopes; it was much larger than other Japanese hotel rooms we have stayed in at similar price points. One of our favorite things about the room was the *actual* king size mattress, rather than 2 twins pushed together with a large sheet fitted over them (again, typical of other Japanese hotels we have stayed in). The one very minor complaint we had is the bathroom didn’t have a Japanese warmed toilet seat and bidet. Overall, there are so many features in this hotel that really make it a unique and welcoming place. The restaurant is decorated with the owner/manager’s personal family possessions from Germany, and the staff are genuinely friendly and invested in your experience. On a sunny afternoon after skiing, we sat out front on the benches and sipped draft beers while chatting with the manager and watching skiers pass by. This place is truly special and not your conventional hotel.
Amazing breakfast and dinner at the hotel, amazing views of the mountain, and the location is perfect: you can honestly ski right to the hotel entrance from the Happo One slopes. The owners and staff are super friendly too.
We had a fantastic stay at Marillen! Truly a great place to stay while in Hakuba. Ski-in/out made it ultra convenient for the slopes, apres-ski drinks on the terrace every afternoon was great, and the food at Bernd's Keller was outstanding. Will absolutely be staying here again!
Quaint, rustic, classic. A European chateau ski in/ski out. Large room, simple bathroom, heated equipment room for warm and toasty boots in the morning.
Naoko and Bernd were outstanding and run this hotel like a small bed and breakfast with all the personal touches! By far, were it not for them, this would be an average hotel.
Absolutely eat at the hotel restaurant for dinner at least one night - our family of four all chose different entrees and they were all outstanding!

Ski in/ ski out location on 1 of HappoOne red/bluetrail is great. The owners Bernd and Naoko are friendly and super helpful. Our room on level 2 & hotel has no lift, so the multiple walks up&down our room, esp after a full day skiing were exhausting. Face basin and shower share the same water control, bathroom & toilet were together so only 1 person can use at a time. The bad experience came from 1 junior waiter forgot to get some guests to sign for their apres ski bill, approached me asking if it was mine, which table i was sitting at etc, to which i said no, because I had signed mine earlier that afternoon. However, the events following that appeared he still doubted me & keeped reminding me to "sign for any coffee order you might have made", "pay for your food now at the cashier" (instead of adding it to room bill which I sign at end of session before i leave). An experience staff would have easily came to the conclusion that a family of 2 adults&2 kids, within 2.5 hours apres ski window, couldn't possible ate 2 serves of garlic bread, 2 fish&chips, 2 hot chocolates, 2 cocktails, 2 beers, then went on to consume 4 meat pies and a few other dishes and drinks which appeared on unsigned invoice. It was rathe insulting to me that he obviously implied that other bill was mine. This ruined my 7-day stay experience
A wonderful boutique hotel, where both the owners and staff did that bit extra to help make our stay more enjoyable. The food was delicious and our room was warm and comfortable. We had a fabulous time at Marillen.
