Yamdrok Lake is a freshwater lake in Tibet, it is one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet. It is over 72 km long. The lake is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains and is fed by numerous small streams.
A day at the beach Tibetan style. Yamdrok Lake is one of the scenic highlights in the amazing multi-day drive from Lhasa, the largest city in the region, down to Mt. Everest base camp near the Nepal border. Located at over 14,500ft altitude, this lake like so many places in Tibet is considered sacred. Driving along the shores of the lake it is not uncommon to see pilgrims making a holy pilgrimage circuit of the lake, a multi-day undertaking by foot. A much more common sight is that of locals who have brought their yaks down to the lake for a day of leisure along the sunny shore. #lifeatexpedia
