Also, in just a few minutes—after a pleasant stroll through the town’s streets—you’ll reach the square in front of the funicular (a gathering spot for many visitors to the town, who find here a unique way to ascend to Sítio da Nazaré). Once you arrive at Sítio da Nazaré, the view is absolutely breathtaking—from the sea and the beach to the imposing plaza of the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Nazaré—and you simply must visit the Fort of São Miguel Arcanjo, and let yourself be awed by the enormous waves of the Canhão da Nazaré that crash onto Praia do Norte—waves that have set so many world records in big-wave surfing in recent years.
Long live Nazaré! Let the warmth of its people put you at ease, and make the most of your time here in a way so special that you’ll never forget it.
