What the Doctor Ordered
We stayed for 9 days. The location was great for morning walks around the island, enough space for two to relax and unwind. Nice and bright, just like the photos, and a lovely view of the bay. All the amenities except for a washer/dryer but we have family nearby so it wasn’t a problem. Even parking wasn’t a concern. The bed was great too. It was a little cool so we had to turn the heat on to take the chill out of the morning but everything worked as it should. All in all, simply delightful and we didn’t want to leave.

Great Apartment in Quiet Location with water views
The rental process was very thorough and through an agency and not direct with the owner on VRBO. The apartment was in a great location at the quiet end of the island. An easy 5-8 min walk to the mini Mart and ferry and about 20 mins walk to downtown Balboa..The rental agency were very communicative and easy to deal with. Everything was as described and there is a decent amount of space for a 1 bed apartment. It's an older property but very clean, well maintained and very well fitted out.

Great location
Location was fantastic! We rented on Balboa Island for the Boat Parade and all we had to do was walk down the stairs and sit on the sand! The view from the deck was great too! The property could use some attention. Our first impression wasn't good......it smelled horrible when we walked in.....old and musty! We had to leave the windows open to be able to deal with it. Not that clean, all vents were fifty, outdated most everything, old tile in kitchen and bathroom, toilet seat much have been purchased 20 years ago. TV wouldn't turn on so we called, and someone came out, couldn't fix it and left us a tiny tv and said they would be back to replace it and never heard back. 2 of the 4 beach chairs were ripped and need to be thrown away, the sofa tilts forward and is very uncomfortable. We made the best of it, and will be back to the Island, but not going to stay in this property again.

An easy little apartment

north bay unit
The property was as described in the listing, and in nice order. The stairway was difficult due to our mobility problems, but we managed. Street access was poor due to city construction and it was noisy the first day. streets were blocked at times. The view is great. Overall it was fair to good. A good location.

Areas that need improvement
1. Bathroom light doesn't turn on sometimes. 2. Some of the table lamps are missing the turn on/off knobs. 3. There are two fans. One doesn't kick out much if any air; both need cleaning. 4. Screen missing from shower window. 5. Kitchen floor has been lightly cleaned. Needs a good thorough cleansing. 6. Fitted sheets on bed fit tightly. Cleaners didn't have them on all the way so after the first night I remade the bed properly. 7. Many of the honeycomb shades are torn and lifted crookedly. 8. Had to have someone come out and set-up TV operation. There needs to be instructions on which of the two remotes to use and which to use only if needed. 9. Internet connection went out the last day and had to be rebooted.

Simple, yet perfect.
My family and I spent the last three days enjoying this quaint and simple property. It wasn’t anything fancy, but it suited our every need to enjoy a weekend away at the beach. The neighbor is quiet and perfectly located near the bay and a ferry ride away from Balboa Peninsula. We were able to park our car for the weekend and walk to all our destinations. I would love to return!!!

Quiet get-away
Small, quaint property that has some quirky details (unusual light switches among them). No frills, but clean and comfy. Ideal location for walking the island, accessing the ferry, etc. in a very quiet area.

Nice stay, nice location
It works best for two people. The bathroom needs a better cleaning. The WIFI system was intermittent. Works about 50% of the time. The outdoor patio sitting is great once the sun drops over the homes in the summer evenings.

Sweet bayside retreat!
From the excellent directions and help from the leasing office to the overall feel of this property...we were so happy! What a fabulous location on Balboa Island - just steps away from the gorgeous walking path around the island. Enjoy!

Lovely location and rental space to spend a vacation.
We were really pleased with our stay! Traveling from the east coast for a weeks stay so our daughter could take surf lesson found us in the perfect location. Balboa Island is amazing. A truly quant and beautiful location and very walkable. Our apartment was just the perfect size and had a lovely view. The space was clean and well kept. My only issues were the lighting and the bathroom- both seemed a little dated. However that was minor and overall it was fantastic. Hands down we would suggest this place to others. Really wonderful.

The location was great but I think the owners could invest 500 or $1000 and make it a little bit better. The dishes were not very clean so we had to clean them ourselves.

Great location, better than expected!
By boyfriend and I stayed here for a week while out interviewing, SUCH a cute place right on the water with beach access! Super easy to work with the realty company it is through - we did not do much cooking etc so cannot speak to the functionality of all the appliances but overall a great stay! Balboa island sold us:)

Quaint and convenient
Would have given property 5 stars but a mix up with a roofing crew awakened us early the day after Christmas. But the owners made good and were very apologetic. Well-maintained upper unit next to bay front on the quieter end of the island (work crews not withstanding). We would stay there again.

Vintage charm
Nice view of the channel. Apartment is clean and tidy on a quiet street. Has everything that you need and is just a few steps away from the beach and walking path around island. It's well priced for its location.

The house is so cute and the location is awesome!
Other than the lack of air conditioning and the fact that the sofa bed was not really a sofa bed, this property was very comfortable and convenient. If it weren't for the uncharacteristically hot days and humidity, the lack of AC would not have been a problem.

We're glad your stay was enjoyable despite the weather conditions this summer. For folks that are considering this darling property, please note that the description clearly states there is no air conditioning! There are floor fans in the closet for guest use. Likewise, the sofabed is described in the listing as a full size bed....from personal sleeping experience, it is considerably more comfy than a traditional sleeper sofa with springs and bars in the middle of one's back!! Not quite sure what Sharon means in her comments about the sofabed not really being a sofabed. It is an IKEA sofa which has a roll-out "drawer" with an extension to create a full size bed. Finally, Dutch doors provide a unique charm and ability to close the bottom portion to keep in little ones, but they sure don't provide a natural screen to prevent flies during the summer months.....we're working on that!!

Awesome location away from the "busy" part of the Island. Steps from the sand and very quiet. The only noise is Airplanes at 7:00 AM sharp which is not a problem for us since we are early risers. Unit is the perfect size for two. Downside is the unit is in desperate need of some TLC. The unit is old and is showing its age. Knob keeps coming off the the medicine cabinet and the tolilet seat is broken. It appears to have been this way for a LONG time. The furniture is cheap and uncomfortable except for the bed. Please spend a few bucks and upgrade the appliances and furniture. It is not a big investment and will go a long way toward your guests comfort.

We're happy to report that all knobs and toilet seats were repaired or replaced immediately after these folks departed. If we had been told during their stay, we could have easily and quickly mitigated those issues. As for further updates, the full intent of this property was to enhance the original, unique architecture and beach "vibe" in such a great and appropriate location. But we're listening!

We're glad you enjoyed our location....it is very special indeed! As we've told other guests who requested updating the accommodation, the owners felt it would be appealing to keep as much of the original "vibe" as possible, but to ensure that everything functions well. We tend to agree with their strategy as that provides much of the charm and is appropriate to the whole building.

Great location, easy access, lovely view, quiet and peaceful. Had everything we needed.
Kitchen was handy as we cooked in 2 days. A couple of things like no bulbs in light over the stove and the light at then end of the stairs to the unit were both burnt out, no replacements were in the unit. We didn't call for this, as it seemed trivial, but we would have replaced if spares were in the unit. The pullout bed in living room was a bit misleading, we could not get it to pull out so my son just slept on the couch. Main bed in bedroom was comfortable and bedding was nice. The bathroom set up is a bit awkward with how the door is situated. Overall, for the price we paid, it we felt very good about the experience. The people at the rental office were all quite personable, eager to respond to questions and helpful. We will definitely look for this property again when we return to the area.

Oh how we wish our guests would notify us for any issues that they discover and would like functioning properly during their stay!! Light bulbs and the pullout sofa issues would have been quick and easy remedies for us to improve their experience. In the meantime, it is nice to know that they were able to really appreciate the Balboa Island atmosphere and views! It's such a unique and special place!

Location, location, location!
Excellent location, within easy walking distance to Marine Street shops & restaurants, as well as the Balboa ferry. Street parking on weekends can be a challenge; during the week is fine. Sofa bed is a fold down (think futon) rather than a pull-out , suitable for one adult or two small kids. Unit is clean and well appointed. Property management company was very easy to deal with. Check-in and check-out was a snap. We visited 4 nights in late July/early August, 2016 during a period of beautiful weather with temps in the 80's. Unit is upstairs and not air conditioned which made it very warm inside even with all windows open and a floor fan. Would suggest additional electric fans be provided. This aside, the unit is bright, basic, and cozy.

Any upstairs accommodation holds the heat during summer months, for sure. But when our lovely ocean and bay breezes filter through, it's delightful! Thanks again!
