Built with love and learning by many hands over the years, the Hilltop Hideaway is a place to rest and retreat; strolling right in our 80 acre forest or a couple minutes’ drive into Kawartha Highlands for a paddle (canoes available), lovely swimming holes and cross country ski trails within 5-30 minutes. This is very comfortable camping or rough tiny house living and a work in progress- no fridges humming:off-grid, no power or running water.
The space:
With 80 acres of The Land Between- the ecotone where the Great Canadian Shield meets the St. Lawrence Lowlands- right outside the door of our 'tiny mansion', it's easy to live well. Kilometres of trails criss-crossing the property, minutes' drive to larger networks of cross-country ski trails and lakes for big and small boating, swimming and fishing or getting the necessities at the local family-owned grocery store, or hardware store mean you really don't have to go far to get big and small adventures in every day.
The Hilltop Hideaway is a tiny house built not far from the main house of Homeplace- our 85 acre mixed-forest property. So, while you have the Hideaway and the meadow around it to yourself, the trails are shared with our family and the occasional visitors into the back 40 and other campsites further back. Leave No Trace principles apply around. That said, if you have a great bushcraft idea to add to the living spaces in and around the Hideaway- talk to me and we can make it happen ;)
Guest access:
We ask that you get in touch with us first before coming up the driveway or trail up to the main house. Be respectful of other visitors or campers, but we will will always let you know if you are sharing the forest space with anyone during your stay.
