I’ll start with the positives: Location was amazing! Literally ocean view & moments walk to the ocean. Layout of house is great. 2 living rooms makes it perfect for kids & adults to have their own space. Elevator is super convenient & helpful with all those heavy bags. The pool is nice to have when you want a break from the beach. It’s not heated but we got in there anyway (1st week of April). Now for the reasons why we will never rent this house again & if you’re coming with a family I would look for another option: The beds are ROCK hard. It felt like we were sleeping on the floor, mattress pads had pee stains on them, pillows are worn down, old & about as thick as a folded towel. There are blood stains on a few of the pillows so make sure you bring your own! Sheets might as well be paper towels they were so thin & rough, the comforters had stains on them & smelled like body odor. The top bunk rails in the front room is broken so beware of your children falling out of bed. Comforts of home: none! There are no books, board games, throw blankets, not even a deck of cards! The kitchen doesn’t even have salt & pepper. The house has no beach supplies. Not even a shovel. So make sure you pack all your supplies for fun! Some of the Pool furniture is broken. There is no landscaping so make sure you wear shoes at all times outside or you’ll be covered in prickly hitchhikers. If you’re new to the beach & have no clue where to eat don’t depend on the house for suggestions. We rent a lot of vacation homes & this is the 1st one that had zero tips on where to eat, what to do, or where to shop. There were no menus in the house. Of course there’s always Yelp but it’s nice to have first hand suggestions. Again, the house has a great layout, lots of room, and is basically beach front. It’s just not for us & I could never recommend someone else staying here.

Cleanliness

Our overall experience on oak island was great. We had a great time, great food, and made great memories. However, the cleanliness of the property was below average. There were several things that should have been better maintained than they were. Other than the cleanliness of the property, there was plenty of room and the a great location to the beach.
