Rivers Edge/Off Grid/ Bird Watching Summer Paradise
Come experience off-grid living in this beautiful setting on the Betsy River. This remodeled cabin offers clean, rustic barnwood decorative enhancements utilizing wood from 1886. Solar lighting and propane heating makes this place a functioning year-round cabin. A perfect get-away for family fun!
Just south of the Shelldrake Dam, this location offers an abundance of things to do: fishing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, hiking, off-road trail riding, biking, bird watching, fall color tours, star gazing, and sight-seeing. Whitefish Point Lighthouse, Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum and Bird Observatory, Taqumenon Falls and Taqumenon river mouth are a short distance away.
Cabin is located just 1 mile from ATV trail 452.
Heating Propane radiant heat
Water Indoor running hot & cold water, functioning shower & toilet
Lighting Solar Lighting –
NO TV or Wi-Fi
Parking – On site with plenty of room for trailers
The road into the cabin can best be described as a trail, 1 mile long. All wheel drive or 4 wheel drive is recommended. At the very least a vehicle with good ground clearance. The road has some areas of loose sand that can be difficult for the ordinary sedan.
Dining Oven, stove and refrigerator
Pots, pans, and tea kettle
Dishes and silverware French Press for coffee
Location Waterfront
River access
Boat Launch at Shelldrake Dam a short distance away
Safety features Fire extinguisher, Carbon monoxide detector, smoke detectors
Not included Air conditioner, TV, washer, dryer, shampoo
House Rules
No Smoking
There is no smoking allowed in the cabin.
Wash the dishes that you use and tidy up.
There is NO LIFE GUARD ON DUTY by the river so children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
This cabin is located in a beautiful remote wooded area of the upper peninsula. Wildlife, birds and insects are abundant. Mosquito protection is necessary various times of the year. Guests should bring mosquito spray, protective clothing and minimize opening doors.
Wild Blueberry plants are abundant on the property and start in late July early August. No limit on how many you can pick. The Paradise area tends to get a lot of snow which translates into lots of spring melt making this ideal for blueberries. Cranberries can also be found in the Paradise area.
Note blackout dates due to snow melt and breakdown of snowmobile trail.
This would make a great place for a solo or group retreat away from intense city life.
Any preppers out there might gain some valuable experience from the off grid design of this cabin as well
as testing your survival skills in the deep woods.
