First, location, which couldn’t be bettered. Ile Saint Louis is a gorgeous island, near to most attractions in the city, but like a quiet village after dark. The proximity of the local church dedicated to the saint was a bonus and, rest assured, the bells do not chime before nine in the morning. Second, the accommodation. It is as stylish as the photographs suggest and felt extremely spacious. It was a pleasure spending time there and it had everything needed including a dishwasher, washing machine, induction hob, and oven. The owner is clearly not a coffee drinker and if, like me, coffee is non-negotiable, you will need to bring your own maker or buy one locally as I did. There were a few niggles, particularly the blood-stained sheet, which, had my wife had been with me, would have occasioned complaint. The furniture was covered with blankets, mats, and covers on arrival, which rather detracted from the wow factor. You can’t have it both ways, either advertise it with covers or leave them off but available for those who want the added protection for the spectacular furniture. Also, the owner uses a lot of storage space for their belongings (and food) whilst leaving the minimum for guests. But these are not serious criticisms, only dents in the gilding on an impressive lily. Would I return? In a shot. I cannot seriously imagine staying anywhere else. Booking, checking in, and the meet-and-greet were all seamless and I loved every minute there.
