When we arrived to the property, the apartment had clearly not been cleaned. It appeared someone was still in the middle of their stay! There were dirty towels on the bathroom floor, the bed had not been made. We vacated the property immediately as it appeared someone was still in the middle of a stay in this property and we were concerned they may return. The door lock code provided would not lock the property door, which was immediately a safety concern. We reached out to property managers and they were very prompt in their communication. It took roughly 30 minutes to get a new property secured, and as a courtesy they upgraded us to a 2 bedroom apartment, although completely unnecessary as it was just my husband and I.
We arrived at property #2 and it was cleaned but apparent it was not ready for occupants staying 4 days. The apartment had a strong, musty smell like no one had been in this apartment for quite sometime. There were several hairs in the bedding and in the bathroom and shower. Thankfully we had a second bathroom option that appeared cleaner than the one attached to the main bedroom. We slept on top of the covers for our 3 night stay to avoid the less than sanitary sheets below. We were given one towel and washcloth each for the 3 nights.
Upon leaving the property, again, the code provided did not work, reinforcing the same safety concerns from property #1. This apartment is in the heart of downtown Durham next to the main bus station and close to the train. Be prepared for the noise associated with both.
When we voiced our concerns of the lock, the cleaning in property#2 and requested to have the cleaning fee returned as our stay was obviously not cleaned or prepared for, we were denied and said that it was management’s final decision with no opportunity to actually speak to anyone in management.
Overall, it was a place to stay and was a convenient location for our needs however we will not be staying with any Viagem property again due to their poor customer service and lack of cleanliness
