The aesthetic of the hotel is truly unique and charming, the staff were very nice and hard working however my experience was greatly tarnished by constantly hearing the laundry machines running all night long (likely right under my room) and a severe lack of cleanliness in my bathroom that had a lot of black mold growing on the ceiling and in the shower. When I asked other guests about their bathrooms, it appeared I was not the only one with that problem so there wasn’t much point in asking to switch rooms.

Not far away from downtown Reykjavik, which is good. The hotel is cute but the standard rooms for 2 definitely far too small (you hardly get out of your bed because it is so close to the walls). Cleanliness has also some room for improvement (do they actually use a vacuum cleaner?). Overall it was okay, as we used it as our base for the ring road trip. Would we recommend it? - Most probably if they (drastically) reduce their room prices reflecting a 3 star accommodation.
Their Viking theme throughout is great. This was the second time I stayed here and would do so again. Breakfast was great and we could walk the neighborhood. There's a public pool about 4 blocks away and I would encourage everyone to check it out; clean, very nice and the water was warm and we didn't mind the mid-40°F air temp or the 40 mph wind. It was very windy during our 10 day stay. I love this kind of weather! Plentiful parking with an overflow lot. This trip was late May with pretty much no darkness. First trip was mid-October 5 years ago and I would encourage travelers to bring a flashlight! Not for the hotel but in case you visit the wrecked DC-3 down on the south coast and the sun sets! My daughter and I had to make it back to the car park with her iPhone flashlight!
Very unique hotel in Viking style, but room was positively tiny with single bed and cramped bathroom. Walls thin between rooms, I heard next door snoring. I wouldn't stay there again.
The issue we had was the bedding in the cabins. There was one pillow and a duvet. Both has a waffle texture cover on both which were very uncomfortable. We asked for a couple of plain pillow cases and a top sheet for under the duvet and we were told no. When the heat was comfortable for the main floor the loft became stifling hot.
The atmosphere and food and drinks in the restaurant were excellent.
We were unable to use the small hot tub and it was full of young people every night until close.
