We had a great stay at Midgardur. The location is excellent, easy walking distance to dozens of restaurants and shops. The Reykjavík Kitchen is across the street and was fantastic. Also steps away is a food hall inside a renovated bus station with many options including delicious pizza, beer and ice cream. Laugavegur is a quiet one way street and it’s an easy walk into the CBD.
We stayed 5 nights total, 2 in a standard room and 3 in a deluxe. The price difference for deluxe is definitely worth it. The standard room was tiny and hard to fit all of our luggage but the deluxe was huge by European standards.
We booked some nights through Expedia and some directly through the hotel. Booking direct gets you complimentary breakfast (otherwise 25 euros pp) and use of their spa. The breakfast was a large spread of fruit, pastries, toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, oatmeal, yogurt, pickled herring, etc. If you don’t want to pay 25 euros, there are great cafes nearby and a fabulous bakery with a line out the door called Braud. The price on Expedia was lower.
The staff were very kind and helpful. We arrived at 9:30am and were able to check in around 12:30pm (early check-in is complimentary if you book direct; regular check in is at 2pm).
There is still ongoing construction next door and it was loud during the day.
There’s a fantastic laundromat (Laundromat Wash) a 10 minute walk; much cheaper than the hotel.
Overall we were very happy with our stay and highly recommend Midgardur.
