The house, although older, was very clean and well-kept. Everything worked and it was a comfortable place to be, once you were inside.
Unfortunately, the neighborhood looks like something out of Deliverance. Many old broken down cars parked in haphazard ways, an old laundry machine or two in yards, not to mention the forever crowing rooster across the street and the dogs fighting constantly another house or two down.
Someone apparently had a brush fire going the first night we were there and the master bedroom filled up with smoke about 2 o’clock in the morning, forcing us to close the windows which had previously been supplying us with nice fresh air (oh, and the smoke set the rooster off, too, so that was fun).
While enjoying a light snack on the covered front porch, which was very nice and enjoyable, we were forced to listen to two foul-mouthed kids (several houses down) cussing each other out for one thing or another. I haven’t heard that many F bombs since my dad dropped a bowling ball on his toe when I was a kid.
The hot tub was quite enjoyable and we were pretty much there every night. They keep the temperature at a delightful 102° which means you can soak for a really long time without getting overly hot. Very nice.
Communication with the owner was great, even though we didn’t have any issues that needed to be dealt with. Nice touches left in the house were helpful and appreciated (water, bathroom amenities, coffee, etc.). We stayed with another couple and we were a mix of coffee and tea drinkers, so it would’ve been nice to have a separate tea kettle for heating tea water, but that was about the only thing missing.
The review title pretty much sums it up. The house was nice, the neighborhood was just NOT.
