The apartment is located a short walk from Campo de Fiori, up to four hundred square did not exist as such, and in its place there was a flowery meadow with some cultivated gardens, hence the name. According to legend, the square would rather his name to Flora (woman loved by Pompey, who had built near his theater). In 1456, Pope Callistus III had paved the area, as part of a broader project of reorganization of the entire Parione district. This renewal meant that many important buildings were built in the area: in particular, Orsini palace, which gave right on Campo de 'Fiori. For this reason the square became a place of passage for important personalities such as ambassadors and cardinals. This brought a degree of prosperity in the area: Campo de 'Fiori became the seat of a flourishing market of the horses which was held twice a week (Mondays and Saturdays), and around the square were built many hotels, inns and shops of artisans. The square became the center of various activities both commercial and cultural. Campo de 'Fiori were held executions and punishments with stretches of rope. Thursday, February 17, 1600 he was burned alive the philosopher and Dominican friar Giordano Bruno, accused of heresy. In memory of the philosopher, in 1888 it was built on the very site of the fire a bronze monument, a work by the sculptor Ettore Ferrari. Since 1869, the square is home to a lively and colorful market whose popular atmosphere is well made by the famous film Campo de 'Fiori, 1943, with Anna Magnani and Aldo Fabrizi.
