The hotel is beautiful and the staff was excellent. We did have a problem with the sink not draining and for some reason the carpet was soaking wet around the bathroom in the front door. But they were very diligent about coming up and checking it out and offered us another room which we declined because it seemed like it started to dry out overnight. It's a fabulous place to stay

The entire stay was excellent! The most pleasant experience was calling Samuel, the valet captain. We were lost and confused trying to find the hotel. We called, and Samuel stayed on the phone with us until we got to the hotel. His competence and helpful attitude reflect very highly on the Mengers reputation!

My stay was great. The bed was very comfortable and the room overall was satisfactory. I didn't eat at the hotel so I can't speak to that. My primary complaint though was that the hotel should provide a map when you check in. I got lost on my floor more than once, couldn't find the appropriate elevator and ended up in the basement on the service elevator once. Some of the vending rooms have had the vending machines removed and only have ice. And the exit signs don't seem consistent if you try to follow some of them.

The hotel lobby and shops were beautiful, and the access to the Alamo and shopping center were great! The hallways and elevators seem more like an old hotel with some bandaids on it to make it seem nicer. I know it’s historic, but I just think for the price it should have been nicer. The beds and pillows were very uncomfortable, and we couldn’t get the room a good temp, it was either hot or cold. The location is amazing tho!

Fantastic historic hotel. Signature scent is fabulous! You feel like you've stepped back in time as soon as you open the door. Quality rooms and furnishings. Beautiful woodwork and wallpapers. Lovely landscaping. A suggestion to the management: replace the printed laminated paper signs telling guests don't do this, don't go here. Have classy signs directing your guests in a positive manner, this way please, enter here, etc. Make them feel welcome rather than like a nuisance. One more suggestion, have the entrances more open, such as the one from the mall near Morton's so your guests don't have to walk through the valet drop-off area. That being said, I cannot wait to return and experience more of this historic hotel. Pictures and words do not do it justice. Plus, one cannot beat the walkable convenience to the Alamo, the mall, and the River Walk. Highly recommend staying here!

The Menger is filled with charm and history. My only complaint was check in. I was late and the gentleman who was supposed to do my check in didn’t know how. It took 20 minutes for him to complete and I found out the next day when I was called that I was never shown as arriving. They had me down as a no show and my riom as unoccupied!

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars. I loved the historic nature of the hotel and all the curated pieces it had. Unfortunately, the mattress in my room (3046) was the hardest and most uncomfortable one i have had in a long time. I could literally feel the springs poking into my back, and it made for poor sleep and sore mornings. That being said, when asked, they did try and put an extra pad (1/8" thick) on it, but it didnt rectify the problem. Im sure not all beds are like this, so i dont want to dissuade anyone from going here.

The valet parking was overpriced. The housekeeping was excellent! We felt all the front desk staff were not helpful or nice. We have traveled a lot and I have never met a group of staff that were so unfriendly.
