Great location- property needs some love
First off, the location is beautiful! Incredible views and close to vineyards and Solvang. We enjoyed sitting out on the porch and looking at the scenery . The host provided a complimentary bottle of wine which was a fantastic way to start our trip. The property itself needs a little love. Wires hanging out of the walls, walls need a good wash down and/or a fresh coat of paint. The furniture is a bit worn. Not sure if it was due to holes in the screens but there were little fruit flies and gnats. The property manager did say the cleaning crew had to leave early and while nothing was terribly dirty it just seemed things were a bit overlooked. The dirty dishes were still in the dishwasher from the previous guests which we didn’t realize until we went to load it on the morning we were leaving and couldn’t load all of our dishes. There were some cigarette butts out on the patio. So while there wasn’t anything huge to complain about, the property could use a little love because it has the potential to be excellent.

Private ranch getaway
Situated on a private ranch nestled near Los Olivos we were able to enjoy a fantastic weekend in the lush greenscape the winter rains have provided this season. The views from the property are spectacular and it provided us the opportunity to relax in the countryside- yet take advantage of all of the wineries and restaurants in Santa Ynez valley close by. Nice property for a couple or a tight knit family to enjoy.

Beautiful view but not clean and needs work
The owner was friendly and beautiful view. Unfortunately the home is out of date and not clean. There were cobwebs throughout the house, the pantry had expired foods, when walking with bare feet you could feel the dirt, the dishes in the cabinets were dirty, the microwave needs cleaned, walls dirty and need painted, the bathroom shower needs cleaned as well as the shelves and light fixtures. There is no hot but at this property. And the landscaping at the bottom of the house was in disarray. To top it off we there was a mouse in the house. The bathroom sinks did not have hot water. The sectional sofa came apart every time you sat on it and under the sofa it was filthy (we tried to fix it). They could use a good electrician because there were extension cords throughout the house. The beds were poor quality. I would love to have given a better review but I believe the owners need to do a lot of work to bring this home up to what they are charging.

Outstanding retreat at the Wine Valley cottage
My wife and I have been fortunate to vacation at several spots around the world. I can honestly say that the Wine valley cottage is one of our favorites, truly, a peaceful oasis that can recharge the soul. Nick, the property manager and owner, is one of the nicest men I have ever met. He will go out of his way to ensure that you have whatever you need to enjoy your time there. The cottage has incredible views, and is close to everything you would need to enjoy your time up there. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Time waster - do not book!
2 weeks out from my stay the owner messaged me to say he was cancelling my reservation due to some issue with the property but did not cancel the reservation in VRBO. So I did not get my refund. He did not respond to any messages. I had to call VRBO a couple of times and finally got my refund way after the date of my stay. The property looks great from the photos but save yourself the hassle and book with an owner that actually pays attention to how VRBO works.

Host refused entry at the gate, unilaterally cancelled reservation, spoiled a family vacation
We followed instruction to a tee, calling from the Solvang grocery store about 50 minutes prior to our anticipated 4:30PM arrival. We were told everything was great, looking forward to seeing us. When we arrived at the property, the final entry gate was locked, the entry voice call box had no response, the code inoperative, and only an answering machine in response to phone calls. My wife went up with the friendly dog who greeted us, and while meeting a friendly, calm elderly individual, did not get any indication of a pathway to resolution. After ultimately connecting on a call, we got a response that someone would come down to open the gate, but also learned that that 20 minutes after our grocery store call when everything was great we had been texted about a "medical emergency" but we had not seen the text. The request was to come back after 5, and even waiting at the gate until after 5 with a car full of groceries, rather than personal communication we received a text to go away and then got an email notice of refund of our 6 day stay fee. While VRBO tried to get us back on our feet with a hotel, it certainly disrupted our family vacation in a major way. The statement the proprietor made to VRBO was that they cancelled because we were running around their property yelling and banging on doors, but interestingly the nature of the medical emergency had changed. This was a grotesque exaggeration of my kindly wife trying to see if anyone was home. Do some homework.

Last minute Owner Cancellation
An hour prior to check we received an email from the property owner canceling our stay and refunding our money leaving us stranded 2500 miles from home with no place to stay…they claim a water leak but did not even offer the property to us for the other nights after the leak could have been repaired…very disappointing that we did not receive a phone call to let us know the news…had we not checked our email we would have arrived unknowing…had to pay over $2000 more to find similar last minute accommodation…very poor host communication and no follow up Or apology to make sure we had found another place or offer to help us find another place…beware booking with them

HOST COMPLETELY NON-COMMUNICATIVE
This was a TERRIBLE experience. Earlier I had asked questions of the host that were never responded to. 2 weeks prior to our stay, I began again to email and voicemail and, again, he didn't contact me. VRBO tried as well, with no response. A woman answered 1 number and said the host had left several days ago, she didn't know where, could not reach him and did not know when he would return. She told me that someone else was now the host. He did not respond either. We were enamored of the property, so took a chance and headed up. My daughter and I were about an hour away from the property when I got an email from the "new" host, saying that the reservation had been cancelled due to a leak and flooding, an excuse we did not believe for a minute. I again phoned the "new" host to express my unhappiness and this time he answered. He was uncertain who I was and what I was calling about; he told me to call back in an hour and then hung up on me. I received an email from the "host" informing me that because I had not completed the reservation or paid, they did not respond to me. I sent 2 emails that confirmed my reservation, from months ago, and confirmed that I was paid in full. He said he "misunderstood." WHAT DOES TH AT MEAN?!" Still considering thie property? Check out another quest's end of June review.

An unfortunate experience
The date of our arrival, I received a notification a few hours before the 4 pm check-in, that the AC did not work. The host acknowledged the house was “unbearable” due to the hot weather. Communication between myself and the host was challenging due to his inadequate responses between 2:30 pm - 8:30 pm. I called multiple times to only receive his voice mail. When I was able to get him on the phone, he was very apologetic and gave the impression he was trying his best to resolve the matter. Though I was able to communicate with him via text message, he was positive and supportive and then he would be condescending and sarcastic, which was frustrating. Ultimately, the host suggested I reserve a hotel, due to the AC not functioning and it was ambiguous as to when or if it would be fixed. As a result, I requested a full refund and the host agreed. I scrambled to secure a hotel for our trip (at 9 pm). The following day was challenging to secure a refund. I contacted VRBO for assistance and provided them with screen shots of our text messages. He was finally able to process my refund and he sent me a screen shot showing his part of the refund. He made it clear not to contact him further. During this ordeal, I received an apology, an offer for a complimentary dinner, but mainly empty remedies from the host. I wouldn’t be surprised if the host leaves an unfaltering response, as it would be indicative of his character.
