In the Finger Lakes, winter can come early. It’s worth going out all the same to hike and see how the woods changes shape, color, and feel as the flakes gently fall.

#mybackyard waiting just a hair after peak foliage makes the woods stand out on gray days between the darkness of bark and brightness of leaf. Seeing how thinned out the woods becomes is a little sad, but wandering through and hearing birdsong is still just as satisfying.
