We booked this little hotel for after a very long and busy day visiting longleat and it was just perfect. Room was comfy and we all slept well. Breakfast was great too.
The Coppleridge Inn provides excellent food, drink and peaceful comfort. The staff are friendly, courteous and efficient and the bedrooms and bathrooms are scrupulously clean and well furnished.
We had a large family room, lots of space for 2 adults and 3 children. Lovely views, friendly helpful staff.
Only stayed one night a stop over before a day at Longleat.
Room was clean and warm, bathroom was a little tired looking. Restaurant area was nice but pity the wood burner wasn't lit, the room was cold! Good food and breakfast was nice.
This was an unexpected treat. I thought it would be nice which is why I booked it but it exceeded my expectations. The helpfulness of staff, comfortable, clean, beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay and wished we were staying longer.
The TV did not work. The milk in the fridge was off. The beds were the most uncomfortable and none of us had a good nights sleep. There was mould in the the bathroom. On booking nobody advised us there was a wedding so there was loud music until early hours which disturbed our young children. It was a static caravan which needs a lot of love dumbed at the back of a pub.
Property ok but very tired, definitely needs a refurb and the owners to stay a night in each room to appreciate where they could be improved. Restaurant overpriced, breakfast average at best, absolutely no atmosphere, no background music etc. Deafening uncomfortable silence at breakfast, we were the only table occupied with an occasional acknowledgement from the waiter who clearly was not feeling comfortable in his role. Courtyard ruined with a permanent wedding marquee which is clearly only what this establishment appears to be interested in! Spend your money trying some of the other hotels/pubs with rooms in the area instead.

Not as good as I hoped it would be
When we arrived we spoke to a young girl behind the bar and she showed us to our rooms, unfortunately their was a wedding on site so we felt like an inconvenience. When asked if we could book for evening meal she told us that they were not cooking because of the wedding but they did in the end. Breakfast was good but when asked for sauces they did not turn up till we had almost finished the breakfast. In the bathroom at room 5 some tiles are broken of which I cut my finger.
Bit of a shame to be honest.
Pros - nice room, clean, comfortable. Rooms separate from inn; ‘motel’ style I guess. Spacious grounds; clearly a wedding venue. Good breakfast in terms of choice & quality.
Neutral - would suit some not others, but this venue is ‘out in the sticks’. Down a narrow country lane from the east. Gillingham is 5 miles down a country lane to the west. There is Motcombe village directly to the south on the way to Shaftesbury, but there are practically no amenities for about four miles around - this is important for below.
Cons - We arrived 3pm on Sunday (earliest check in time I think). Place was clearly winding down from Sunday Lunch, a couple of stragglers remained. We got our key to the room and I asked on the way “is there any food being served on Sunday evening?”. “Err, no”. “Oh! Not even bar snacks?”. “Well, er, no. We aren’t open at all on Sunday nights. Nor Mondays actually. We’re not open again till Tuesday”. “Well, we’ve travelled. We’re can we get some food?”. “You’ll have to go to Shaftesbury. Or Gillingham might have something. Enjoy your stay!”.
I may have missed this ‘opening hours’ information in the blurb on the Hotels.com website, but this is an Inn; it appeared to be lived in and strikes me as poor not to offer guests some sort of room service. If you want this level of service after travelling, don’t stay here on Sundays or Mondays.
In the end we went to the Benett Arms 4 miles away that served pizza. Very nice!
I was not told that the inn was closed on Mondays rushed check in on arrival the room was freezing cold and grubby. Tired old place that looked unloved and felt damp and cold. Not welcoming at all with 3 children. The owner thought that 5 adults had booked but I did stipulate when booking who was staying. Was told to look through the book and if I needed anyone to call. Bedding clean but felt damp. Towels were damp on the bed. Breakfast the next day was okay. Overall ruined our longleat experience as felt I had taken them to a tired old dump. Also beware folks when booking it says service taxes and charges are included in the price yet I was charged extra for them which is misleading to say the least. Therefore value for money is not good. I have attached a few photos of the mildew on doors and stains on walls. Bathroom extremely tired and smelly and no complimentary toiletries. I think their 4star rating was for the pub or food or from a very long time ago. If I had not paid up front would not have paid the £190 for the one night stay. Couldn’t apologise enough to my daughter and grandchildren. Carpets were dirty and poor Arthur the 2 year old was on the floor. Oh there was a pubic hair stuck to the bidet and the rim had sticky urine residue all over it. Never had a shower as rusty grubby black mold. Bought bubble bath to bath the kids and mask the tired old tub. Hotels .com need to issue a refund as it was awful. Owner was not approachable no one around at checkout
Lovely room in fantastic surroundings.Manager and staff extremely friendly and breakfast /meal in restaurant of extremely good quality. We will definitely visit again next time we are heading to Devon & Cornwall
A wonderful stay. All staff were extremely helpful friendly and genuinely interested in chatting. The evening meal in the restaurant was incredible. I’m still dreaming about the pork dish that I had. I went to speak to the chef and bought him a pint. Would certainly go back

Good - aside from chilly/musty room on arrival.
Stayed two nights visiting family in the area. A little bit more attention - to the room and to the check-in - would make it feel a lot more welcoming. Room was stone cold (thermo set to 10 degrees) on check-in, which meant the room smelt a bit musty and damp. Likely that Room 3 has or recently had a bit of damp/leak. Great view from room over the Dorset countryside. Convenient location for Gillingham and Shaftesbury. Breakfast was good. Room was large, spacious, light, with large clean bathroom.
This is a lovely place to stay and staff are so friendly and helpful. We stayed overnight a d dined out at the pub restaurant and the food was amazing with excellent wine choices and knowledgeable staff. Room was great, linens clean and room clean, the only let down was the curtains were shorter than the windows and gaps between, curtains would benefit from being black outs as there was a lot of light coming in from the courtyard lights which are situated outside the door/windows. Overall absolutely lovely place and worth visiting/staying. Shall be booking again soon.
