LV 72 was built in 1903 by John Crown & Sons of Sunderland for Trinity House. Her hull is made of iron and, during World War 2, she was involved in the D Day landings. She was sold out of service in 1973 to Steel Supply Co., Neath for scrapping. When sold she was the oldest vessel in the Trinity House fleet. She was later considered for conversion to a floating night club but the project did not go ahead. She is now on a mud berth on the River Neath in poor condition.

The ruins of the cistercian Neath Abbey, alongside a section of the Tennant Canal, in the Neath valley. On the right of the ruins is a ruined 17th century mansion built within the abbey ruins. The site was heavily industrialised in the 19th C, excavated in the 1920s, is now in the care of Cadw.

Neath Abbey Swing Bridge The Rhondda and Swansea Bay Railway Company opened its line in 1885, but could extend the line into Swansea until this swing bridge was completed in 1894. I am grateful to the owner of Derwent Construction and his plant operator Martin for their assistance in getting this image. This is one of over 1,450 movable bridges in the British Isles that I have identified for my historical website. www.movablebridges.org.uk

Everything was ok, breakfast was a bit manic, didn't have milk in the coffee machine and there didn't seem to be much room in the breakfast area.

Great area for exploring south wales. The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas. So lovely, cosy and clean . The hot tub and play park for the kids was an additional bonus. Nice small cosy room that was toasty warm. Only marked it down as the milk in the little pots was just a solid mass of gloop so could not make a drink. A note on the wall advised that milk was available downstairs in the bar, which is no good if you make a first brew after the place is closed.
