Admire the impressive facade or watch a classical music performance at this important religious site of the Hussite community in Prague.

St. Nicholas Church at the Old Town Square looms over the center of the Old Town. Come here to enjoy a concert or mass, or simply admire its architecture.

For centuries St. Nicholas Church’s stark white walls were hidden from the Old Town Square by the neighboring Krenn House, but have been made visible again. Approach the church on a sunny day and the walls appear to glow white. At night the walls are illuminated by floodlights.

Enter the church to see its equally stunning interior. Despite many of the ornaments within the church being removed when an emperor closed all monasteries, the walls and ceiling are still a sight to behold. Spend some time gazing at the murals, decorated in stucco and showing scenes of St. Nicholas.

St. Nicholas remains an active church, with mass every Sunday morning. The members are of Hussite faith, but people of all backgrounds are welcome.

During the evening the purpose of the church shifts completely. St. Nicholas Church is one of Prague’s premier venues for classical music. Experience the thrill of hearing the Prague String Orchestra perform with the aid of the church’s unique acoustics.

Don’t confuse the church at the Old Town Square with the church of the same name in Prague’s Lesser Town. They share a name, style and architect, but there is a river between them and they don’t offer the same services.

St. Nicholas Church at the Old Town Square is located in the Old Town and is easily reached by public transport and on foot. The church is open daily, with concerts occurring most nights. Tickets to the concerts can sell out, so try to book ahead. While the church is heated in winter, it does get cold at night and warm clothes are advised.
