What We Love
Urban Escape is an industrial-style three bedroom, two bathroom home over two levels on Bridge Road in Glebe, Sydney, a few minutes' walk from the new Sydney Fish Market and the Blackwattle Bay foreshore. It sleeps up to 6 guests across a queen bedroom with concertina doors to a semi-enclosed balcony and two double bedrooms, with a sunny private courtyard garden, a separate study, air conditioning, a private laundry, soundproofed windows and doors, and off-street parking for 1 small car. Rated 5 stars by past guests.
It suits families (a baby gate is available) and groups of friends wanting a characterful inner-city base, corporate guests needing a study and parking close to the CBD, and longer stays, with a full kitchen, dishwasher and laundry.
Living & Courtyard
Edgy black walls, polished concrete floors, exposed timber and exposed beams give the home its urban character. The large open plan living and dining area looks out to the sunny courtyard garden, where two seating areas sit around a stunning frangipani tree, perfect for morning coffee or sundowners after a day of exploring. A casual breakfast bar separates the full kitchen (oven, stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee maker) from the comfy lounge, with a TV with cable and Netflix.
Sleep & Work
Two bedrooms are upstairs. The main bedroom has a queen bed and concertina doors that open onto a generous semi-enclosed balcony overlooking the courtyard. The second upstairs bedroom has a double bed. The third bedroom, also with a double bed, is at the front of the house on the ground floor. All bedrooms have plenty of storage, and a separate study is ideal for those travelling for work. Both bathrooms have walk-in showers.

The Neighbourhood
- Sydney Fish Market: The new Sydney Fish Market at Blackwattle Bay is just down the road, with some of Sydney's freshest seafood, cafés and restaurants on the water.
- Tramsheds: Originally a tramway depot built in 1904, Tramsheds is now a local hotspot for restaurants, retailers and a growers' market. Check their website for events during your stay.
- Foreshore & Parks: The foreshore walk around Blackwattle Bay to Jubilee Park is a gorgeous stroll, perfect for an afternoon picnic.
- Evenings: The Different Drummer is a dimly lit, down-to-earth bar on Glebe Point Road, open until 2am. For something more upscale, No. 92 serves great wine in a 19th-century home-style restaurant.
- Museums: The Australian National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour is about a 20 minute walk, or a short trip on the light rail.
The L1 light rail and buses connect you to the CBD and Central, Uber and GoGet car share are readily available, and your off-street space fits a small car.
Home Truths
- The front steps are quite steep, and the top step is especially high, which may be difficult for guests with limited mobility or anyone carrying luggage.
- The car space is a tight squeeze and suits small cars only. It is not suitable for SUVs or large cars.
- One bedroom is at the front of the house, off the entrance hallway. A door closes off the hallway for privacy, but the bedroom is visible as you enter the front door.
- A privacy blind has been added to the front room, but there is a small gap we are working on closing.
- The home is on Bridge Road, a main road. Windows and doors to the street are soundproofed.
- There are fish in the backyard pond. Guests do not need to feed them.
- This is a smoke-free property, and pets are not permitted.
