Cruceiros are everywhere in Galicia, stone crosses on a high stone pole having various significations. Typically with Jesus on one side and Mary on the other but this varies. Some will date back to the 14th century, some are as recent as from the late 19th or early 20th. Typically posted at intersections locals will tell you they keep away bad spirits and help you make the right choices in life. But you will also find them on many squares and there are probably many other social, religious dimensions to them. With the frequent rains in the region most of them look older than they probably are as the stobe has withered away but they still are remarkable little things.
