Transdanubia Pensions

Esztergom is a pleasant Hungarian town situated on the Slovakia-Hungary border. Štúrovo is the town on the Slovak side of the border, which has an ethnic Hungarian majority.

On a small hill overlooking the town and the Danube is a Cathedral, which is the largest in Hungary, and the site at which the Hungarian king Vajk (Szent István) was baptised. The adjacent castle complex is also worth a look.

You can easily get here by bus or train from Budapest. Alternatively, you can take a train to Štúrovo which is on the main line between Budapest and Bratislava. From there, it's a 45 minute walk to the Danube.

"If I traveled to Keszthely again, I would pick the same place. The owners were very hospitable and very helpful in arranging extra activities, like our bike rental. Practical bonuses: a fridge in the room, a coffee maker in the main hall, complimentary tea and coffee; all making it possible to grab a snack before going out in the morning. The neighbourhood is lovely and quiet, whereas the lake, the beach and the center of Keszthely are within a walking distance. Overall, I would recommend it...

"The room was very spacious and looked amazing, along with a nice view with curtains. Bathroom was wonderful and clean, would've been nice to have a small soap or so but handwash wuas there which other hotels don't usually provide so that was appreciated. The beds were very comfy and extra pillows and blankets were provided. Staff helped with questions whenever needed, with no major problems popping up during my weekend stay. "The hotel exceeded our expectations, our room was clean, comfortable and had a lake view. The staff was kind and professional, especially Georgina, who helped us find an excellent room after the first one they assigned us only had a partial view of Lake Balaton. The SPA was also great, but what really impressed us was the abundance of varied, special and delicious foods. I would rank the culinary experience, what we had in the hotel into the top five out of the hundreds of hotels we have stayed in worldwide over the decades."
