Winter wonderland trip

We had a lot of fun at Schuss Mountain/Shanty Creek with the ski resort and the tubing hill at Lakeview Hotel. There was lots of snow. However the hot tub was not working the 2 times we attempted to use it and the restaurant did not serve anything at lunch time for the guests.

Our room was comfortable for 2 adults and 3 children. The hotel was clean and the staff was helpful. The hotel seams a little dated, could use some upgrades. We were on a weeklong ski trip and this was only one of our stops, so we had to bring in a lot of items that we would need later due to the extremely cold temps. Although they have hand carts, the rooms are not all on the same level, so we had to stop and carry items to our room. Just an inconvenience. Overall We liked it.

The entire property is very dated. The rooms are very dated, think 1985 ish! Played golf and the course is in bad shape. Fairways were terrible. They are extremely short-staffed which caused delays in service, and food prep. I'm guessing this is why the staff is cranky.

The parking lot i front of our room was being redone… know one told us on Friday that this was going on at 7:39 am Saturday morning out side our window. But we book a lake view room room and where told again because it’s was a second party booking that we get parking lot so we paid extra to have a view of the garbage. $600 for a week is not worth this ask for a refund got $100 back 🙄

I have to be honest. The photos make this place look amazing. It's fairly outdated and the cleanliness of the overall property was pretty disappointing. There are all these windows and they are dirty - not just like water spots from rain but just filthy from not being cleaned or maintained. The place itself is outdated. The elevator takes forever and I can't exaggerate it. One of the days we were here someone had vomited in front of the loading area. I told someone at the front desk at around 9 am. I came back around the same way later and the vomit was still there at 6 pm. It was horrible, and I couldn't believe they hadn't taken care of it.

The room was quality was poor with a damaged front door and a broken lock on the patio door. The room looked and smelled outdated. The shower drained so slow. We had to shower extremely fast to not stand in the 3-4 inches of water. We let the front desk know, but nothing came of it. The whole stay, there were dirty glasses sitting on the hallway floor outside of what I would assume was a utility closet. The Lakeview Restaurant seems like it’d be a fine dining experience, but it is not at all. The table we were sat at had fries and mustard stains on the floor. The food that was being brought out to tables looked cold. The cocktails were great, but the menu was not very appealing. My wife and I decided to just finish our drinks and drive 40 minutes to Grand Traverse Resort and dine at Aerie, which was an actual high end restaurant. (Worth the drive) The best thing about this place is the golf courses. Best of all, they’re public, so I’d recommend staying somewhere nicer for what you would spend to stay here and book some tee times.

Overall a really cool spot. The hotel is immaculately clean. Beds were comfortable. The grounds are beautiful. There is a lot to do outside of just golfing. My only complaint is that our hallway smelled of cigarette smoke. Every room has a balcony or patio. You could tell people were on the balconies smoking. Our room didn't smell or anything like that so a very minor issue.

The entire building, including the room, needed updating and/or maintenance. It felt like there was absolutely no pride in the property. There is no breakfast included, the ice machines are remote and in disrepair. We reserved a lake view, which turned out to be a noisy pool view along with a distant lake view. A nice balcony was included, along with screaming kids from the pool, and no internet once you went out the slider. The room’s furniture needed to be replaced, and since there was no desk, counter space and seating was very limited. Unfortunately, there aren’t many options up there so they still pack in the people and apparently don’t have the time or need to renovate.
