「The sheets had sand in them so we had to wash the bedding upon arrival. We contacted the host about loud neighbors (so loud they couldn’t hear us knocking), but never heard back. The place was nice and spacious but the games got in the way. This is part of Grand Bear Resort which is past its prime. Lighting was awful and the upstairs got very hot if the curtains were open. Great location to parks. Decent stay, but likely won’t be back.」

「The location is great, especially if you’re planning to visit Buffalo Rock State Park, Matthiessen State Park, or Starved Rock. They also offer kayaking on-site, and I believe they offer discounts on kayaking if you’re staying at the campground.
The nearest towns are about 10–15 minutes away, so you’re still fairly close to restaurants, stores, and other necessities.
A few things to keep in mind: there are no showers, and the campground only has porta-potties. The grounds were okay but could...
